Re: No operating system found

Though I've been using Linux Mint for about two years now, I still consider myself a newb. That said, if it installed correctly, the only thing I can think it could be is grub. I've had similar problems before with various distros and configurations, and almost always it's because the grub file does...

Re: Sound lost after updates?

Okay, odd. Removed everything PulseAudio related that didn't get rid of mint-gnome-main, or something like that. Logged out, back in. Checked if my audio was working using rythmbox. Nope. Checked the volume inside Rythmbox; Volume was raised. Added volume applet to my panel. Master, raised. Headphon...

Re: Sound lost after updates?

Unfortunately, my drive doesn't read the brand of CD-Rs I purchased a while back, so no liveCD experience there. CD-Rs may be cheap, but my cashflow is seriously hindered right now. Ten bucks is like 3 meals. Gotta have those more. I'll try to uninstall Pulse Audio and see if that remedies anything....

Re: Sound lost after updates?

Regardless of distro discussion...

I am still having trouble figuring out what I need to do in order to get my audio working. I'd like to know if anyone can diagnose this with me. Go step by step if need be.

I love Linux, but I need help in the troubleshooting department.

Re: Sound lost after updates?

Yeah. I checked and when playing anything with sound the graphical bar moves left and right. I know the computer is processing the sound, but it's like it's not sending it to the speakers anymore. I tried headphones too, thinking maybe my speakers are dead, but the headphone jack didn't work either....

Re: Sound lost after updates?

Anyone? I've no clue. I know the speakers work because when I shut down Mint, a loud beep cries out. It also didn't used to do that either.

Sound lost after updates? [SOLVED]

This is a hunch. I believe applied updates to my laptop may have caused a loss of audio. I looked back through the updates (all 3s on the security) and I didn't see anything audio oriented. But it was the same day I did the updates, about three days ago, that audio stopped working. I reinstalled eve...

This did not work for me. Anyone else still having trouble?

Edit: This DID work it seems. I had to restart Firefox for it to take effect. D'oh.

Re: ATI Driver Help

I did exactly as you wrote and this did not work for me. Still cannot enable desktop effects and now my screen rendering is much slower. It's like the screen is trying to fill two opposing triangles left to right and slowly. Hard to explain. I'll have to try Envy's automatic detection I guess...see ...

Well, it certainly doesn't have to be officially empowered and used by Clem, but just for fun I wanted to see what people came up with and if anything stuck. Anyone else?

What are we?

We are Linux users. More than that we are Linux Mint users. Ok, but what are we. So I thought we should come up with a nickname of sorts that would describe Linux Mint users while being more fun than being called a "Linux Mint User". Anyone with me on this? Jimmy Buffet has his Parrotheads, why can'...

Re: Kernel Upgrade?

Thanks all. I'll hold back then.

I suppose the Mint 5 edition will have a newer Kernel by default anyways, right? If so, why not wait until then to upgrade.

Re: Kernel Upgrade?

It might be useful to newbies like myself if mintUpdate crossreferenced one's personal hardware with the compatibility list and provided a safe option to upgrade to a newer kernel. Just a thought.

Kernel Upgrade?

After opening synaptic package manager I ran through my list of installed packages and whatnot before coming to those that could be upgraded. The Kernel and headers were the only things that suggested a newer version was available or that could be upgraded. I'm still using the original Kernal that c...

Re: Install Mint over Gutsy

You might look into backing up your /home folder and just doing a clean install.
