Re: WINE program crashes

Leave your existing Wine as-is and install Play-on-Linux. Try the program there. You can select older versions of Wine from within Play-on-Linux. Tried Play on Linux again. It works! Thanks I've also done a bit of struggling with making Foobar2000 to run in Wine 8.* (don't remember the exact versio...

Re: [SOLVED]Can't move files to trash - root owns my drives? (Permissions?)

Seems I celebrated a bit to early... The recommendation for edit of fstab that I found in another thread telling me to replace the part that say: auto nosuid with: ntfs uid=gosa seemed to work at first, but after rebooting the edited drives no longer appear as devices. I could still browse for their...

Re: Can't move files to trash - root owns my drives? (Permissions?

Go into the Disks utility. Where it states the options: nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show,x-gvfs-name=nube Add one more option to take posession of the mounted partition: uid=gosa so that it reads: nosuid,nodev,nofail,x-gvfs-show,x-gvfs-name=nube ,uid=gosa I assume Disks knows how to remount the part...

Re: Can't move files to trash - root owns my drives? (Permissions?)

I didn't mean you should change the format of the disks. NTFS is OK. No worries.. didn't think you meant that either. It was more of a comment that a bit of shuffling stuff around and starting over with these drives by "converting" them would probably solve my problem. But it's soo much d...

Re: Can't move files to trash - root owns my drives? (Permissions?)

I have the problem now and then - after updates of Windows 10 (dual boot !) - and it is very likely caused by Windows (in my case). You're talking about NTFS, so you will also run Windows in parallel, right? Anyway, the solution didn't succeed for me by changing user permissions within Linux Mint. ...

[SOLVED]Can't move files to trash - root owns my drives? (Permissions?)

Hi all, Struggled a bit with where to post this one, and I'm not sure I got it right so my apologies in advance. I recently reinstalled Linux Mint as a step in my Virtualization with GPU Passthrough adventure (which went great btw, but anyway..) Installed Mint 21 Cinnamon Edition to replace my old a...

Speed up network discovery after having been on vpn?

Hi all, Apologies if something similar have been covered before, but I'm not really sure about what I'm asking for with regards to terminology which kind of makes it hard to search for previous threads as well. I have a couple of "shared" devices in my home network - among them a printer a...

Re: Looking for a Nemo alternative with more column view options...

Try Double Commander. Might fit the bill for you. Its in the Software Manager as Doublecmd-gtk and Doublecmd-plugins Thanks for your suggestion, will take a look at Double Commander at one point as it does look rather interesting. For now I think I can consider my immediate need solved with nemo-me...

Re: Looking for a Nemo alternative with more column view options...

There is an extension for nemo that provides this try nemo media columns: sudo apt-get install -y nemo-media-columns This one seems like it did the trick... sweet! - Thanks a lot for that! There is also a media info extension for seeing metadata information when looking at property info for a file ...

[Solved] Looking for a Nemo alternative with more column view options...

Hi all, Sorry if I failed a bit in naming this query - not really sure what to call it, but for quite some time now I feel there is a lot of information the file manager could be displaying that isn't available in Nemo - more precisely I'm talking about the columns offered in list view: Link to exam...

Re: Unable to create socket: Too many open files

Well... went the whole weekend without streaming and - even though I rebooted a couple of times (for the sake of investigation) the message comes back. It does however not seem to have any negative effect on my system as a whole and the size of the syslog seems to keep itself at a reasonable size, s...

Re: Unable to create socket: Too many open files

Were you by any chance doing a lot of capturing of streaming videos at all? I haven't used svtplay-dl for some time actually, but you might have pointed me in the right direction anyway... I've spent the last couple of days following Al Jazeera's coverage of the US Election... could that qualify as...

Unable to create socket: Too many open files

Hi all, Yesterday I found myself with a syslog that had grown so big (23GB) that available space in my root partition had shrunk to only 150-something MB. I googled my way to a solution to that problem and managed to get that part of my computer back to normal again. This did however open up a new w...

Install & setup to VDI, transfer to physical computer?

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the place for my question, and maybe it's all been asked before, so please accept my apologies if I should have posted it elsewhere... (Neither do I know much about terminology, so maybe the info is already here somewhere) A couple of years ago I set up my netbook to ...

Re: Failure to boot "live-usb". Freezes after "stopping samb

Here is an interesting update...

Just on a hunch I decided to try the XFCE version of the iso instead.

- That one boots!

It doesn't solve my problem though, as I really prefer to install Cinnamon version...

Any ideas?

(Edit - couldn't find the question mark on the live cd)

Failure to boot "live-usb". Freezes after "stopping samba.."

Hi all, Did a search, but from what I found most similar errors come on already installed systems which is not my case... I sat down to try to reinstall Linux Mint this morning - I went for Cinnamon x64 version of 17.2 - and ended up not getting past the mint boot splash-thing... I reset the compute...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

I finally got it (and my memory back): If I choose to add the server by adding it address instead of scanning for it and try to open it I get the option to enter with credentials. - But this only works if I do [2] It's a pity that it isn't as easy as just right-clicking on the folder/drive and choos...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

Hmm... I think I'll look at that option first. Another option that I'm thinking about it to go back to Maya and see if that works the way I remember it. That way I covered until 2017 when it comes to support and since the main task of this netbook will be sharing videos and music It doesn't really m...
