Install & setup to VDI, transfer to physical computer?

Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the place for my question, and maybe it's all been asked before, so please accept my apologies if I should have posted it elsewhere... (Neither do I know much about terminology, so maybe the info is already here somewhere) A couple of years ago I set up my netbook to ...

Re: Failure to boot "live-usb". Freezes after "stopping samb

Here is an interesting update...

Just on a hunch I decided to try the XFCE version of the iso instead.

- That one boots!

It doesn't solve my problem though, as I really prefer to install Cinnamon version...

Any ideas?

(Edit - couldn't find the question mark on the live cd)

Failure to boot "live-usb". Freezes after "stopping samba.."

Hi all, Did a search, but from what I found most similar errors come on already installed systems which is not my case... I sat down to try to reinstall Linux Mint this morning - I went for Cinnamon x64 version of 17.2 - and ended up not getting past the mint boot splash-thing... I reset the compute...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

I finally got it (and my memory back): If I choose to add the server by adding it address instead of scanning for it and try to open it I get the option to enter with credentials. - But this only works if I do [2] It's a pity that it isn't as easy as just right-clicking on the folder/drive and choos...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

Hmm... I think I'll look at that option first. Another option that I'm thinking about it to go back to Maya and see if that works the way I remember it. That way I covered until 2017 when it comes to support and since the main task of this netbook will be sharing videos and music It doesn't really m...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

Ok... I'll have to read a bit more to try to figure this one out. Seems like quite a huge inconvenience - at least for me - that I canẗ offer just about any device that enter my home access by a few "clicks".(we have 4 Androids and 4 computers at all times, and a lot of family visiting) Ag...

Re: Samba share - getting past the password screen...

Hi Altair, thanks for taking the time to reply. I started with option two and it worked right away. Is this a new requirement or did I just forget about it from the last time I set it up? Another question - how do I go about giving my android phones acces to these drives? That error is still there (...

[SOLVED] Samba share - getting past the password screen...

Hi all, Silly question that I can't seem to figure out the answer to: Have two computers running Petra Cinnamon. One of them - a netbook - have a couple of usb disks connected to them. My idea is to have the netbook run as a poor man's file server, so I want to share those connected disks with the r...

Re: Any overclockers in here? Segmentation fault in Handbrak

First of all - thanks for taking the time to reply, My testing goes on and it seems like it's pointing more and more towards memory. Haven't done any real testing of the RAM yet, but I decided to change my strategy a bit with Handbrake and went for one of the standard presets that came along when I ...

Hi all, Not sure if this is the right section, maybe I should've posted in the hardware section instead, but since this is a mix of hardware and other questions I'm starting out here. Feel free to move this if another section is more appropriate. I recently set up a new configuration which consists ...

Re: Flash Out Of Date

I just upgraded on Mint 13LTS yesterday (27-Mar-2013): 1. Open synaptic 2. search flash 3. Your search results should product an adobe-flashplugin Install and restart FF. Note, I'm not sure if this is applicable, but I have backports engaged in synaptic, -DataMan You're right, I did more or less th...

Re: Flash Out Of Date

I can still watch youtube videos without issue... Which flash version are you running? FYI, adobe has cut support for Flash on Linux (as of a year or so ago). One comment about this with adobe and Flash fro Linux... weren't they still going to release security updates? A more general observation: I...

Re: The unofficial LMDE XFCE

can 'unetbootin' replace 'image writer' It (at least for me) makes a USB Startuper (is that a word?) perfect, but Gparted (unless in a live environment) complains about a recursive file system if want to reuse as (format) just as a storage pendrive. edit** Also can 'BUM' replace setting>services. Nadia XFCE and Dropbox - I'm a bit puzzled...

Hi All, Just installed Nadia XFCE on my Netbook a couple of hours ago, and I'm currently in the process of setting it up the way I want it. On my to do list is Dropbox, but when trying to install it (through terminal) I get a message saying that nemo-dropbox will get installed instead, and along wit...

Yeah, saving the session works for me. Been rebooting, shutting down/turning on, logging in/out several times since yesterday without problems.

Re: Recent update of Maya XFCE broke... something?

gosa, I seem to be having the same issue again today. It occurred for a few days last week but seemed to resolve itself. Today however, whenever I login, I have to run xfwm4 in the terminal to get the min, max, and close buttons. Hopefully an update will be forthcoming that will resolve this. Matt ...

Recent update of Maya XFCE broke... something?

Hi all, I don't really know how to describe this one... I updated my install of Maya XFCE yesterday (bad idea - never run an update on a working system just before going on holiday) after which something happened.. Suddenly everything I open gets "stacked" in the top left corner of my moni...

Re: The unofficial LMDE XFCE

With regards to the Software Manager & The Update manager... I don't really have any opinions in either direction, but I would still like to ask those of you who discuss wether or not they should be included: Is it not the intention of this thread to take the frist steps towards creating a XFCE-...
