Re: I'm stuck with a shell log in prompt... and can't get back to Mint.
Did you try ctrl+alt+f7 if no joy If you have fn key on the keyboard try toggling that to switch to the f key functions then retry ctrl+alt+f7 No Joy. I found a script but I do not know how to run it. 0_Exit_from_Linux_Shell cat exit_me.sh #!/bin/bash exit I think the exit command defaults to the l...

I'm stuck with a shell log in prompt... and can't get back to Mint.
I'm stuck with a shell log in prompt and can not get out. Exit is listed in the help command, but it just clears the screen and leaves another login prompt. It shows I am in TTY1. As far as I know, bash is the only shell I've been in. I've tried a variety of things like stop, end, quit, and exit. No...

Re: Disable middle-clicking
I blasted my previous post away, because I can do one better. I just successfully and really easily disabled my middle mouse button! First, determine which device is your mouse, so you can get the right ID: xinput For me, it's 8. I listed the current button mapping for that device: xinput --get-but...

Proton VPN does not see my hotspot device on Linux Mint 21.1
It was working properly when I shut down. On start up today, my Linux laptop failed to connect to my Franklin T10 1345 hotspot. The error message was: Unable to connect to Proton VPN: Proton VPN connection failed due to unknown reason. The hotspot software is up to date and I restored the settings c...

Re: Failed to boot Live Linux Mint-21-Cinnamon from 2 separate USB sticks
So far, this new installation seems rough ... Off topic, but did you have a particular reason for upgrading? I always wait for the .1 release, regarding the initial one as an advanced beta. FWIW, Ubuntu generally doesn't even offer an upgrade path on LTSs until their .1 release (haven't checked whe...

Re: Failed to boot Live Linux Mint-21-Cinnamon from 2 separate USB sticks
Hi, pbear. Oddly enough, I just formated 20.3 on this Asus, to make way for 21. Mint 20.3 was installed from the third USB stick. The other 2 sticks are new. So far, this new installation seems rough, as I have to pound the touchpad to make things happen, including this site. It is inconsistent, so ...

On a side note, I booted the Dell laptop from those 2 USB sticks, a week or 2 back.

Re: Failed to boot Live Linux Mint-21-Cinnamon from 2 separate USB sticks
Ok. The 3rd SanDisk USB gets me on the Live installation. This is a Ventoy bootable stick, also. The kernel noted is for an earlier version on Linux Mint, so that does not matter on this live version. This kernel is 5.15.0-41 I was worried about scrolling, as there is no option to specify verticle a...

I'll do that. I just ran into something I'm completely ignorant about: $ gpg --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-key "27DE B156 44C6 B3CF 3BD7 D291 300F 846B A25B AE09" Result: gpg: key 300F 846B A25B AE09: "Linux Mint ISO Signing Key <root@linuxmint.com>" not change...

Re: <Solved> Xed Recents files seem to have an expiration date.
I think I may have solved the problem. I usually make changes to System Settings, as soon as I make a new install and I believe I did this, when I installed LM20. The error seems to have been a setting of 7 under: System Settings > Recent Files > Number of days to remember old files I expect the pro...

<Solved> Xed Recents files seem to have an expiration date.
Prior to LM 20, the Recents files would remain until they were rolled off by other files being opened.
Now,they just disappear unexpectedly, apparently after a time.
Maybe a week or 2.
Is there a setting to prevent this?
I can't find it, even with dconf editor...

Re: Ventoy Persistence has become discouraging. What have I done wrong.?
I expect Mint can handle the exfat and fat16 format, just fine. It is a very limited application, anyway. Persistence.img is contained in an ext4 filesystem partition. It seems to be reserving a dedicated space for ventoy settings, leaving the remainder available to other applications not related to...

Re: Ventoy Persistence has become discouraging. What have I done wrong.?
Hi, Kseanfitz_1.
I tried mkUSB a couple of years ago. It locked my USB stick and I never spent the time trying to figure it out. I think I ended up trashing the stick.
I like what I've seen with Ventoy, very much, and expect to use it instead of MultiSystem.
Thanks for the suggestion, though.
