Re: mate-terminal sometimes crashes with segfault in libgtk-3 when right-clicked

At first I thought it was this bug I think it's important to highlight that, unlike the bug reports, my X server doesn't crash. Only mate-terminal. It happened again today, and I'm puzzled to notice that the error message (in /var/log/messages) points to a different library: Aug 11 12:27:20 <Host> ...

mate-terminal sometimes crashes with segfault in libgtk-3 when right-clicked

Hi all, I observed some crashes in mate-terminal, and they are not consistent. Until I can tell what triggers the problem, I'll blame bad luck on it. The crashes usually occur when I select text in the terminal screen, then right-click into the terminal right away to copy such text. It seems to depe...

Re: recurring error on update; g_child_watch_add_full: assertion 'pid > 0

This is a known bug in Synaptic: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/synaptic/+bug/1282542 It is already fixed in Synaptic 0.82.5 (see comment #60) which, unfortunately, is not available for Mint yet. Debian hasn't implemented this even in Sid: https://packages.debian.org/sid/synaptic So we sh...

Re: postgresql-9.4 installation warning - ID_LIKE

Update: there is already a bug report:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/linuxmint/+bug/991734
Not much attention, tho. Should we report elsewhere?
Thanks,

postgresql-9.4 installation warning - ID_LIKE

Hi all, I installed postgresql-9.4 in my LMDE installation, and got warnings about an environment variable not set, possibly related to a previous warning about unknown distribution: Configurando postgresql-common (165) ... supported-versions: WARNING! Unknown distribution: linuxmint /usr/share/post...

Re: Notebook speakers stopped working after installing LMDE

Hi, Seeley, Problem solved. I had already played with pavucontrol. Though it wasn't installed, it was accessible by right-clicking the audio icon. Maybe it was only a non-funcional frontend (if so, it's a bug). I installed pavucontrol and unchecked "mark as secondary" (dunno if this is the...

[Solved] Notebook speakers mute after installing LMDE 2

Hi all, I had an unrecoverable crash trying to update LMDE 1 and decided to reinstall from scratch (this is how I learned about LMDE 2). Installing was flawless. But I have a problem: the notebook speakers make no sound at all. The phone jack output is OK, as well as the internal microphone and inpu...

Re: Cinnamon fails to load session after upgrade to 2.0.14+l

I installed Mate and it's running flawlessly for over a month now. So I guess nothing is broken outside Cinnamon. But purging Cinnamon, reset all its settings in GSettings and reinstalling again from scratch makes no difference. So I just defaulted to Mate and gave up on Cinnamon.

Re: Cinnamon fails to load session after upgrade to 2.0.14+l

I tried more stuff, but no success at all. My last steps: I purged Cinnamon and reinstalled everything: apt-get purge cinnamon* apt-get purge mint-artwork-cinnamon apt-get install cinnamon cinnamon-common cinnamon-control-center cinnamon-control-center-data cinnamon-dbg cinnamon-desktop-data cinnamo...

Cinnamon fails to load session after upgrade to 2.0.14+lmde

Hi all, I had Cinnamon 1.6.7+lmde, and decided to upgrade to be able to install the weather applet, and I can't log into Cinnamon no more. Gnome Classic and Mate are OK. When I try to log in, I get a small dialog about the error and, after hitting OK, another dialog saying session lasted less than 1...

[SOLVED] Why amd64 kernel is installed in Intel x86_64 CPU?

Hi all, I have a Dell Inspiron 14, with Intel x86_64 processor and installed LMDE Cinnamon 64 bits. But I noticed my kernel is for AMD. Why is it so? ~ uname -mr 3.2.0-4-amd64 x86_64 I searched for x86_64 kernels with apt and found nothing. Is it that x86_64 kernel just doesn't exist, or is not avai...

Re: Mate freezes - maybe related to psmouse or smartscroll

I've switched to MDM and kernel 3.x for a good while now. I don't know if any of these fixed the issue, but it's been also a good while it doesn't happen. Unfortunately, I can't relate one thing to the other - just recommend said update.

Forum search ignores important words

"MDM", "menu" and "face" were some I tried to search and got a warning saying these words were ignored for being too common. But I had a problem with my MDM login menu or face browser, and couldn't search the forum for previous messages. Specially "menu" is im...

MDM login menu (face browser) disappeared after upgrade

Hi, I update almost all packages recently. After my first reboot, MDM didn't show the login menu anymore, nor any option to configure it back. Is the face browser gone, or is there something I can still do? MDM itself was upgraded from 1.0.8+lmde to 1.2.5+lmde. Thanks, Emerson My last update history...

SOLVED - Making Alt-F1 access Main Menu instead of app menu

Hi all, I use LMDE both at home and at work, with Mate desktop. This setup has one panel in the bottom and other in the top, with Applications, Locals and System Menus. I want to remove them and switch to the Main Menu, which takes less keystrokes to use, and I find it cleaner. I then added Main Men...

Not all users are shown in MDM login menu

Hi all, I'm using LMDE with MDM (1.0.8+lmde) and Mate. My MDM login menu is configured to simple (no themes) with faces. I have just added an user (guest) and it just does not appear in the MDM login menu. I added the user with both adduser and useradd, disabling home directory creation (--no-create...

I forgot to mention important info from my installation.
