Re: Thunderbird - reload some email
Thanks for your thoughts, guys. I've checked Gmail and found that the number of messages that I want to keep is reasonably small. So... 1. Went to Gmail and selected the messages I wanted and then forwarded them to myself as attachments. 2. In Thunderbird, I saved the attachments and used the Import...

SOLVED -Thunderbird - reload some email
Linux Mint 20 Mate
In the course of reinstalling Mint I find that email from May to August this year are missing. They are still on the server (GMail).
Is it possible to download the missing messages (preferably without having to redownload all messages)?
Any advice would be welcome.

Re: Mint 20 & Canon printer driver: Could not detect the target printer.
I sympathise! I've recently been struggling with another Canon model. I'm not sure which f the many things I tried actually delivered the goods but if you haven't tried it already, it might be worth allocating the printer a fixed IP address so that you can specify that address in the control centre/...

Re: Double Sided Printing on Epson
I've fixed it but I still don't know why it went wrong. If anyone else has this problem, here's what I did to fix it. In /etc/cups/ppd there were two ppd files relating to my printer. The larger file contained all the valid printer options. The smaller file contained only a small subset of printer o...

Double Sided Printing on Epson SOLVED
For some reason the double sided print option for my Epson Stylus Photo PX730WD is no longer available. Double sided printing used to work, now it doesn't. There is nothing wrong with the printer and I can print double sided from my Chromebook. I am using Linux Mint 13 Maya. Any suggestions how to f...

Re: Evolution woes
Same OS (Mint 13 Maya). Same Evolution version.
I can't be the first person trying to set up evolution on a new machine and wanting to retain old emails.
Anyone any ideas?

Evolution woes
The PC has died. I have a backup of the entre home directory. I installed the backed up directory to the home directory of the new pc and installed Evolution. But Evolution will not run. It seems to have restored the folder layout but attempting to open a folder leads to the error message "Cann...

Re: Eject/Safely Remove
Thanks for the comments.
I know how to manage the Trash manually. I'm wondering why the operating system sometimes offers the 'Eject' option and sometimes doesn't - even when 'Eject' would be an appropriate option (I reckon 'appropriate' means when there's a .Trash-1000 directory present).

Eject/Safely Remove
Mint 9 When a memory stick is plugged in, I get the options 'Eject' and 'Safely Remove'. Selecting 'Eject' clears the trash. Fine. When an external USB HDD is connected (NTFS is that's significant), the 'Eject' option doesn't become available so the trash (.Trash-1000) doesn't get cleared so the dis...

Re: If your scanner doesn't work
I've installed a Brother printer/scanner DCP-135C in Linux Mint 9 but I can only scan as root. I've read through this thread but can't work out what might solve the problem in Isadora. Any advice would be much appreciated. Answering my own question... Installed sane, libsane and libsane-extras. One...

Re: LM9: minor problem when running fsck at boot
Has anyone shown any interest in fixing this? Mint 9 is a long term support release and as it stands is not suitable for ordinary users. To my mind when it comes to rolling Mint 9 out across an organisation, this bug is not minor - it is a show stopper.

Re: How to get rid of the 'Mint Search Enhancer'?
I don't mind them trying to make some money where they can but they should realise that many or perhaps most people outside the USA are going to want a localised Google search and will therefore want to get rid of the "Mint Search Enhancer"

Re: What MP3 Player do you use?
Recent Sony Walkman models are fine with Linux (drag and drop). Video files are easily manipulated into the right format using ffmpeg. The Sony software (MS-windows only) isn't needed. For earlier Walkman models, JSymphonic is an open source replacement for Sony's SonicStage software

Re: HP Deskjet 5650
Update... Have uninstalled hplip-gui and restored all the settings to their previous states (so far as I could remember them). I also let the printer model revert to HP Deskjet 5600, which is what Mint originally detected (it's actually a 5650). Printing now seems to OK. A possible bonus here is tha...
