Re: Unwanted Full Screen

Thank you - just what I wanted! The relationship to "tiling" wasn't exactly intuitive, at least to me.

Unwanted Full Screen [SOLVED]

Using Mint Mate 19.1, when I move and window and it bumps the top of the screen the window goes to full screen. This may be a "feature" but to me it is just an annoyance. I should know how to make this stop but my old brain seems to be down to only one processing core and that one is running slow. A...

Re: Mint Menu doesn't show applications

This problem occurred after an update but I don't know what was updated. My secondary computer, also running Mate 18.3, was fully updated today and does not show the problem.

Re: Mint Menu doesn't show applications

gm10: I tried your suggestion. Got the message "rm: cannot remove '/home/jn/.config/menus/mate-applications.menu': No such file or directory".
I haven't made any attempts to modify the menu or its structure.

Mint Menu doesn't show applications

Using Mate 18.3, today I find that Mint Menu's "All Applications" selection show nothing at all. Selecting an item from "Applications" shows nothing at all. This has all been working correctly for several months, until today. I added the Mate Main Menu to the panel and it seems to be OK. I added a n...

Re: Mint 19.1 (Mate) not printing to HP Officejet 8210 [Not really solved but useable]

To rlindau: I tried a whole bunch of things too, including several re-installs. I didn't play with Mint 19 enough to know if this was a problem there or not but all the print stuff in Mint 18.3 works just fine. It appears that printing from applications works OK, at least the ones I have tried, but ...

Replying to my own problem:

The Officejet 8210 DOES print from LibreOffice Writer and from Gnumeric . It does NOT, however, do a test print from the Properties page. Every time I try to send a test print, it appears that a page is being sent and I can hear the printer getting into position to print it but nothing prints. Jerry

Mint 19.1 (Mate) not printing to HP Officejet 8210 [Not really solved but useable]

I have not been able to print to my networked Officejet 8210 with Mint 19.1 Mate. Something is sent to the 8210 and there are no error indications but nothing prints. This printer works perfectly with Mint 18.3. Mint 19.1 does print properly to my networked HP Color Laserjet 451. Added information: ...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta [SOLVED ]

LSUSB shows two of my USB 3.0 Sticks as:
ID 154b:00b2 PNY
ID 13fe:6000 Kingston Technology Company Inc.

I Googled these as suggested but I fail to find any useful information about the specific drives

I guess I am bit dense today - search where?

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta [SOLVED - workaround found]

Pierre and Petermint caused me to think a bit. Ouch, kind of hard on an old guy :D ! The mint versions (17.x, 18.x, 19.0) that boot properly in the USB 3.0 port on my out-of-date desktop computers are on PNY 128gb USB 3.0 units. The Mint 19.1 that does not boot consistently on the USB 3.0 port on th...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta [Solution Found]

I have been trying to boot the Mint 19.1 Beta USB Stick with the USB 3.0 ports on my 10-12 year old computers, with inconsistent but poor results. I have determined that the USB Sticks WILL boot consistently on USB 2.0 ports on these computers. This is an adequate work around. Still, why do Mint 17...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta - Added Info

When trying to boot 19.1 from a USB stick, I typically get either a Boot Error or the following message: " ISOLINUX 6.03 1017017 EHDD Copyright (C) 1994-2014 H Peter Anvin Et al" The computer is completely locked up at that point and has to be rebooted. I have been able to get 19.1 to boot 2 or 3 ti...

Re: Problem booting 19.1 beta

The computers in question are set to boot from USB and do indeed readily boot from USB sticks that have Mint 19, Mint 18.3, and all earlier versions. They just won't consistently boot Mint 19.1 USB sticks. All the USB sticks were created in Mint 18.x using the USB IMAGE WRITER. Mint 19.1 beta (Mate)...

Problem booting 19.1 beta [SOLVED ]

I have created 19.1 cimmaron and mate beta flash drives but I am having trouble getting them to boot on my two primary desktop machines. I also created a 19.1 beta mate DVD and it boots just fine. Versions of Mint up through Mint 19 work just fine but the 19.1 flash drives will not boot consistently...

Some more information

I am actually getting somewhere! I can connect the ip8720 by USB to two different computers, both using Mint 18.3. I have been playing the "why can't I print 11 x 17" game on both of them and just came to the realization that as of a few days ago I was using different printer drivers on the two comp...

Re: Print 11 x 17 inches on Canon ip8720

Actually in addition to the Canon that I bought only for printing 11 x 17 and 11 x 14, I have an HP Laserjet 1320 (monochrome, getting a bit old), an HP Color Laserjet Pro 451, an HP Officejet Pro 8216, and a quite old but still working HP Photosmart 7960. Unfortunately, HP no longer makes ink cartr...

By the way..

The paper dimensions in the PPD files seems to be 72 units per inch. I seem to remember that this is a size in Picas. I will try adding or modifying one of the entries in the PPD file to 792 by 1224 for 11 x 17 inches.
