Some problem in my asus netbook. What is stranger is that it usually worked very well. Cannot understand what happened... This clipping sound is exactly the same and it comes from the soundcard, I even tried a external microphone, and the noise was still there.
Help, anyone?

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
I also installed cinnamon 14 UP3 following clem's instructions. Until now, I had no freezes. Tried with 3 or 4 libreoffice writer files open simultaneously, opened new files... I just experienced some temporary freezes on libreoffice, but just 2 or 3 seconds... My experience is with an Asus netbook ...

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
I had no more freezes after reconfiguring MDM and doing an apt-get update and apt-get dist-upgrade. I've been working for about 4 hours with hevay writer libreoffice files, and it's ok. Before, cinnamon freezed with just open a new file.
So I returned from gnome fallback to cinnamon.

Re: System freezing - Mint 13 Cinnamon
I have the same problem: Libreoffice hangs my laptop with a fresh install of LM 13 Maya final release 32 bits. It's installed on a Eee PC laptop (Asus), with CPU Atom N 450, Intel graphics, 1 GB RAM. LM is the only system installed. I disabled hardware acceleration on Libbreoffice. Waiting for a sol...

Re: Cinnamon fail to start due to an unexpected error
axl: I think it was a coincidence and has nothing to do with changes on mimeapps.list. Anyway, I had already changed the inode line to natilus, instead of caja, and the problem persisted. I removed it, but the system did not create a new one, and anyway occurred the same problem. FDF: Here's the sys...

Re: cinnamon and gnome-shell fail to start due to an unexpec
Ok, it's probably my bad english. So: 1) I upgraded the system with UP4. 2) I had some minor problems; the upgrade didn't install linux headers, but i did it using the sgfxi script; it also updated the nvidia drivers. 3) everything was running: MATE, gnome-shell and cinnamon 4) I had a problem with ...

Cinnamon fail to start due to an unexpected error
OK, this is a new one! Everything was running well, I was just trying to put to work "open as root" on MATE, editing mimeappas.lst. All was well and suddenly... I cannot start anymore cinnnamon. I got a screen with a computer icon and a message saying that the system couldn't load due to a...

axl,
OK, reading other topics, I changed
to
That solved the issue. The one thing I lost was the usual different color when I open as root. Do you know how to fix this?
Thanks a lot

Ok, the first topic solved the firefox issue. Thanks, axl!
Nevertheless, I still can't open as root; the system tries to open the location with totem.
Still need some help...

[solved] Some issues with MATE
Hi, That must be easy and dumb, but I don't know how to solve it. When I'm on the Mozilla Firefox box of recent downloads, choose one and right click to open its location, Firefox ask me what application do I want to use to make that. I think it's lost because of the change between nautilus and caja...

Re: lmde screen resolution problems
Cryphus one,
In that case ,it depends on your graphics card. If it is nvidia or ATI, you can use the sgfxi script, which allways worked fine with me.
See http://smxi.org/site/install.htm#sgfxi, follow carefuly the instructions. And good luck!

Re: lmde screen resolution problems
I had a similar problem, almost burned my brain trying to solve it, I learned a lot about drivers, resolution, EDID and so on and finaly... The problem was the monitor's data cable that was not properly adjusted, so it didn't pass to the graphics card the monitor's information. So before you worry w...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information
Speaking of kernels, I just noticed that I was using a kernel 486, not a 686 nor pae. I don't know why. My home desktop supports Pae kernels, and even 64 bits, though I installed the 32 bit version. The kernel was installed when I made a fresh install with the last respin. So, I wonder: Why was the ...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information
I did a second upgrade in my home desktop, with LMDE freshly installed with the latest respin, and with nvidia drivers, and once again after booting I entered in a tty prompt. This time it was easier to solve. I followed clem's instructions to remove nvidia-kernel-dkms and nvidia-glx, but the system...

Re: Update Pack 3 Released! Update Information
kmb42vt, Thank you for your reply. I had already tried to boot with the previous kernel, but as I had tried to reinstall nvidia drivers -- following clem's instructions -- and that failed, I ran into a tty prompt also. I also tried what you sugest (nvidia-xconfig), but didn't solve the problem. So I...
