Re: [SOLVED] USB sound card

Hmm, not sure if this will help anyone in the future or not but I messed with my settings over and over again and I couldn't get the settings correct. My mic was picking up a lot of noise even in a quite room. When turning up the volume on a recording it just sounded like static and that was before ...

Re: USB sound card

Note: If you want to be able to record what is playing through your desktop (speaker out) and a microphone (input) at the same time, then you will need a sound card that will allow "stereo mix" input capture option. The basic USB sound card I got does not do that, but the built-in sound card on the...

Resizing retro grapics

I wanted to use some elements from some retro games to use on my desktop but when I try to use them they get all fuzzy. So I set the emulator to a 1x size, screen capture the window, crop the window out, and it looks great. I import it into GIMP and can scale it but I can't find a file format to sav...

Mic paired with Zoom H1 sounds amazing, through notebook sounds like crap

I dual boot Ubuntu Studio and Mint and both have the same issue: mic audio sucks. I don't think it is my microphone, a Sony ECMCS3 because I use it with a Zoom H1 and mix it with my gopro footage for youtube and it sounds amazing. However, when I use it on my notebook, a system76 Lemur, it is not go...

Screen goes to sleep when trying to install 18

Ok, so ubuntu 16.04 has this problem also so it is something with the base. I boot with my usb stick and when it get past 'linux will start in 10 seconds.' my monitor goes to sleep and never wakes up. I don't think it gets past this because no start up sound. I can start into 'system recovery mode' ...

Can't Install Battle For Wesnoth 1.12 on Mint 17.2

I'm trying to install the latest BfW on Mint 17.2, installed Vincent Cheng's PPA that has the latest version of BfW for Ubuntu 14.04, but get this error: $ sudo apt-get install wesnoth-1.12 Reading package lists... Re: 14 inch notebook good for video editing w/ Linux support

The read/write speeds of a good mSATA drive hooked up to USB 3.0 is 150 + MB/s and I don't think I have ever had a mechanical drive get over or even up to 100MB/s so I think it would work. The problem finding lan houses in South America to check out is they don't really advertise, at all, not on the...

Re: 14 inch notebook good for video editing w/ Linux support

The live USB is to use in Lan Houses, I'll probably only use it with computers have USB 3.0. The read/write of the high USB 3.0 sticks is faster than a mechanical drive so I'm guessing it will be usable. I've also been looking into mSATA USB 3.0 enclosures, much cheaper than a high end USB 3.0 stick...

14 inch notebook good for video editing w/ Linux support

So, I'm back packing through South America this next October and want to shoot video and post it on line, probably youtube, and want the smallest notebook possible to edit it that will run Linux Mint. I'm still going to take a USB stick with Mint installed on it to use in a lan houses though. That i...

Re: Connect to openVPN on startup

This was asked before and it never got a reply. I thought the same thing and I hope this is fixed in the next version of Mint. Also, OpenVPN kept disconnecting on me, might have been my VPN service, so I switched to a pptp connection and it stays up 100%. This might be Mint, OpenVPN, or the service ...

Re: Any luck on setting up a 'Live CD Persistence' with Petr

Alright, I guess I'll give it a go. My 64GB thumb drive just died so I have to get another one before I try it out but just partitioning and installing would be so much easier than hunting for any other solution. For some reason I just never thought that was possible.

Thanks!

Re: Any luck on setting up a 'Live CD Persistence' with Petr

With a full install would I be able to use it on multiple PCs? I plan on moving around quite a bit so every time I boot into a computer it will have a different configuration. I think it has to be a live session that can be saved. With a full install the graphic drivers won't work switching between ...

Any luck on setting up a 'Live CD Persistence' with Petra?

So, I saw the "keepod indigogo" website and thought this would be perfect for me but it looks like they took their downloads off their site and won't be back until after I leave (see below) and won't ship before then either. I'm planning on backpacking through Brazil and perhaps more of South Americ...

Re: Mint 16 + OpenVPN client install

I thought I'd bump this because I have the same problem, isn't in the network manager and then when I get it it doesn't stay connected. On Linux Mint 15 it was in the network manager from the get go and it stayed connected. Since I upgraded it is a bit of a hassle to get it up and running (compared ...

Re: Ttuorial on controlling one mint box from another?

Well, it was the heat also, forgot to mention that, thing is like a heater, nice in the winter but sucks in the summer. Thanks, I just thought maybe there was a better solution for Linux to Linux. I'll try some out this weekend.

Ttuorial on controlling one mint box from another?

I'm finding lots and lots of tutorials on remotely controlling a windows box from Linux and vice versa but is there a better solution for Linux to Linux? What I have is a beefy PC that I use only for encoding video and a minecraft server. It is LOUD and produces a lot of heat so I want to relocate i...

Re: Can't add new PPAs because of JSON error

Yes, adding through the command line works great, it is the GUI that seems broke. It will be a deal breaker for a newbie that is trying out Linux for the first time, that is why I'm concerned.

Re: Can't add new PPAs because of JSON error

I come from Gentoo myself and everything was command line. I switched years ago because GUI is 'good enough' now and I was spending all my free time maintaining my computer and learning about Linux. I like Linux but not enough to spend most of my free time learning it so I made the jump to Ubuntu an...

Re: Can't add new PPAs because of JSON error

I kinda fixed it, but it was 'a work around' kinda, instead of adding a new PPA I just added a new repository and still put the Authentication keys like normal. Not sure if this is a bug or not, I googled it and no one else as having this problem. I did have it on 2 of my machines though. . .

Can't add new PPAs because of JSON error

I keep getting his error when trying to add a PPA: Cannot add PPA: 'No JSON object could be decoded'. I've tried adding PPAs through the command line and the new graphical Software Sources and get the same thing so it isn't a problem with the new GUI. Here are some examples of a PPAs I tried to add:...
