Re: Updating existing LMDE 1 Systems to LMDE 2
A weird bug I have had problems with since the update is artifacts left on the desktop. These look like file thumbnails and appear after I have sent the file as an attachment using Opera mail. They focus above any other window so can't be ignored. Re-starting Cinnamon does not remove them so a re-bo...

Re: use Linux Mint Debian Squeeze for productivity
I agree with the above, used Sid before the recent Squeeze release without any problems at all, awesome speed and stability. Guess the name sounds scary but for me Debian has always been more effective and stable than Ubuntu, so i would go for it :) Sorry, I just do not believe that you can run Sid...

Re: use Linux Mint Debian Squeeze for productivity
I have been running Debian Testing for 2 years now with varying degrees of success, or lack thereof, and very much looked forward to squeeze becoming stable. I have always thought that default LMDE should have been based on Debian Stable, with instructions for anyone who wanted to run it as Testing ...

Re: A new LMDE user
Thanks guys, I will have a play around with those suggestions. I did see a message flash past just after booting saying something on the lines of "vga=791 is deprecated" so I will check into that.

Re: A new LMDE user
Thanks TWA. I just followed your instructions and have it working. My screen has a native res of 1600x900 and I cant find a vga code number for it. There do not seem to be any 16x9 codes, so I used 791 but the sun is not round
Anyone know how to find my vga code?

Do you have "deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import" in your sources.list? Yes. This is my sources.list: deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import deb http://ftp.uk.debian.org/debian squeeze main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/...

Re: HOWTO : Install latest HPLIP on LMDE
Hey tipaul, thanks for this. Also useful if 3.10.6-2, (which is currently in squeeze on the release weekend) fails to install the binary plugin that is required for, in my case, an oldish HP2600n laserjet. It failed even on the correct downloaded plugin too. I was agonising about whether I should in...

Re: Computer keeps going to sleep, power settings are on nev
I agree that you should not have to run scripts or issue commands to change a system setting. Are you talking about using Firefox to stop the computer from sleeping? I don't see an 'add to' panel on Linux, or are you talking about 'add ons' in Firefox? I am not a gnome user so I'm not familiar with ...

OK, it would be interesting to see if the problem and fix were both re-producable.

Interesting idea. As a matter of interest, are you now using wicd or networkmanager?

Re: Network "not managed" after hibernation
I seem to remember that wicd used to remove all of network manager and it's config files once upon a time, but I had to manually find them and remove them in order to get wicd to work. I also seem to remember having to reboot after cleaning out the dross network manager left behind. Make sure wicd-d...

Re: Network "not managed" after hibernation
Just re-read your first post and realise that your wired connection is also no longer working. I also had this problem which appeared to be related to Networkmanager in my case, and installing wicd resolved matters. Not sure if that would help you though. I see now that you have posted in my thread ...

Re: Network "not managed" after hibernation
This may sound elemetary, but have you checked if your wifi is switched on? If your battery ran down completely, the wifi card may need to be re-activated either by a switch or by something like Fn +F9 on the keyboard.

Re: network manager stops working after failed suspend
OK, well I fixed the problem by running the live cd, installing wicd and copying the five .deb files to /var/cache/apt/archives in my broken install. Then used aptitude to install wicd, and now all is rosy. Good riddance to network-manager......

network manager stops working after failed suspend - solved
Hi Guys, I have been running mint 9 kde since it was first released, with no problems until last night. I closed the lid as usual to put it into suspend, and noticed that the fans started racing and it failed to suspend. I had to do a hard reset to shut it down. I booted this morning and there is no...

Does this make any sense to anyone? http://wiki.debian.org/snd-cs46xx Is Mint 9 Lxde "a Debian based system"? If the answers are "yes", then which bits from the linked page do I need? Sorry to be so sodding helpless :D No, Mint lxde is ubuntu based which is definitely not...

Re: sound issues
I had system sounds when I first installed, but could not play music until I removed pulse audio. I had to install fglrx to get rid of interference lines on the screen. Not sure if that killed the sound as I did not try playing music till after I sorted out the video driver problem. All seems fine n...
