Re: Install Gnome 3.14 on Mint 17?

Ah, I didn't mean to double post.

Yeah I have the ubuntu gnome 14.10 burned to usb, I was just wondering if anyone had done it this way in Mint. Thanks for the feedback, I might try it on xfce one day.

Install Gnome 3.14 on Mint 17?

This might be a better question for the DE/WM section but, is anyone using Gnome 3.14 on Mint 17? If so, which initial distro did you install first before removing for Gnome 3.14?

Also, how does Gnome run on such a set up? Or would Ubuntu Gnome be a better option then upgrade to 3.14?

I'm actually using Elementary Luna these days which I find really smooth and power efficient.

Thanks for all the replies so far, I think I might pick one up some time soon.

Advice on SSD

Hi guys. I'm considering getting an SSD for my laptop and I have read into it a bit but I'm wondering if someone can clarify some things for me. 1. I understand they speed up the system but, other than boot time and app opening time, would they for example, make DE's run faster? For example, Cinnamo...

Re: Can't keep icons on plank (docky) dock under Cinnamon?

Never mind, I worked it out. Very simple, all you do is open the program then when it's icon appears in the dock, right click the dock icon and choose 'keep in dock', close program and it stays there.

Marking as solved and installing Cinnamon 17. :D

[SOLVED] Can't keep icons on plank dock under Cinnamon?

Hi guys. I'm using Plank dock (formerly docky I believe) with Cinnamon, however I can't seem to work out how to add program launchers to it. On other DE's it's simply a case of dragging the program icon from the menu to the dock and it's there but this doesn't work on Cinnamon. I have also tried rig...

Re: Empathy and online accounts

Did you ever find a solution for this? Trying to use empathy on cinnamon but the drop down tab on empathy accounts add is greyed out. Annoying!

Online accounts in mint 17?

Hi. This might be a silly question and I may have missed it completely somewhere but is it possible to add online accounts to mint 17? I know KDE has this ability but what about Cinnamon or mate? I'm DE hopping just now and I know ubuntu and Gnome 3 have this ability. Or can the gnome 3 online accou...

Don't you just hate distro/DE hopping? :P

I have been running Mate 13 KDE the last year which I have enjoyed a lot, really like KDE however sometimes it's a bit much. So lately I have been thinking of something a bit more minimal and newer, been trying out Elementary OS, both Luna and it's new freya beta and I REALLY like it so far. Also be...

Re: Which do you prefer: Cinnamon or XFCE?

KDE :) but if its between cinnamon and XFCE. Well it has to be XFCE by quite a long shot. Sure Cinnamon is really nice and i think one day it might replace XFCE. And sure XFCE does lack some of the nice apps Cinnamon has. But in the end what you want is A.) stability and B.) performance. XFCE and K...

Re: [SOLVED...FINALLY]Cinnamon dead after HDMI. Mint 13

I was starting to suspect that you were using the literal olduser instead of your actual login name. It just seems odd that I was using the placeholder of olduser and you had the account of olduser. That's why circumstances were geting a little murky on my end. :P  Thankfully I hadn't complete...

Re: Cinnamon dead after HDMI. Mint 13

I assume this worked then and I should reboot and log into olduser? Yes, cross your fingers too. Sometimes that helps... With a scream of defiance I reboot and ran into the flames! When the screaming and flames subsided I was greeted with.......a sound.........life, and soon after, a vision....a vi...

Ok, now the command shows things like:

Code: Select all

find: '/home/olduser/.program: No such file or directory

I assume this worked then and I should reboot and log into olduser?

ls -a reveals no .files.

OK, that's odd unless I'm missing something very obvious here. Re: Cinnamon dead after HDMI. Mint 13

Ok, I ran the find command, got lots of 'cannot delete /home/olduser/.program: directory not empty' errors.

This was as root in the new user profile, should I have done this from the live cd?

Re: Cinnamon dead after HDMI. Mint 13

Try deleting all the hidden files with find /home/olduser -iname '.*' -delete as root naturally. The /.gvfs file might not delete, but don't worry about it. Any of those deleted files that are needed will simply be recreated, unless you have some that were manually setup for say an email client. If...
