But my system was installed 2 years ago and get through all upgrades. It works nicely, even got through gnome update :) ufw is in default state, i.e. turned off....

I solved this problem for me by adding debian testing repository to active list and updating just one qbittorrent package. Now it works fine.

By the way, there is a guide to installing debian onto usb devices, but it doesn't mention any such issues:
