Re: fprintd how to specify device
The man page says nothing about selecting a device:"fprintd(1) - Linux man page" https://linux.die.net/man/1/fprintd

fprintd how to specify device
I previously got fprintd working for auth using my laptop's fingerprint scanner. However, I usually keep my laptop closed, so I bought a USB fingerprint scanner. It seems like Linux Mint is recognizing it, but fprintd doesn't seem to have a way to specify what hardware to use! ╰─ fprintd-list myuser...

[Solved] Quickly/painlessly toggle a monitor on and off, or enforce window open location?
Edit: After a bit of googling, I found a solution: a program called 'arandr' I installed it via apt-get, and it will generate scripts for your desired monitor configuration, *including* vertical positioning! ====Original Post==== I have one computer with two monitors, but 3 cables running to them. ...

internet sharing... with LAN access
I'm trying to share my wireless internet (wlp6s0) through my ethernet port (enp3s0). My normal subnet is 192.168.1.___, and my ICS subnet I'm using is 192.168.2.____. I've got this mostly working, as follows (using https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Internet/ConnectionSharing#Ubuntu_Internet_Gateway_...

Re: QEMU Bridged networking over wifi + subnet/NAT stuff
All right! I got a decent solution... almost connect host to wifi pass through intel ethernet controller to VM network manager -> network connections -> killer ethernet controller -> edit -> ipv4 settings -> change method to "shared to other computers" This is a similar method to what I wa...

Re: QEMU Bridged networking over wifi + subnet/NAT stuff
I ended up doing a passthrough of my wifi card and using a wifi dongle for the host. My computer has two unused Ethernet ports on the back, with different controllers. Maybe I could make use of that somehow? Connect to wifi normally, but use the two ethernet ports to create a fake LAN network betwe...

Re: wifi works, but doesn't respond to ping
it's not just ping though. the linux mint machine won't respond to anything I've tried. additionally, the firewall is off and i've tried echo "0" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/icmp_echo_ignore_broadcasts although in the grand scheme of things, I don't really care about ping. I just need it reachabl...

wifi works, but doesn't respond to ping
I have a TP-Link TL-WN722N USB wifi adapter (Atheros AR9271 chipset, using the ath9k_htc driver). I'm connected to the internet and can ping other machines on the network, but this machine won't respond to incoming connections (ping says unreachable, can't connect Synergy, etc) It's basically acting...

Re: QEMU Bridged networking over wifi + subnet/NAT stuff
Still struggling with this. The method I described in post 1 works, but it's not reachable (NAT?). Tried following this link https://forums.linuxmint.com/posting.php?mode=reply&f=231&t=266120 but it still is putting my VM behind a NAT and the VM needs to be reachable, or it will defeat the e...

Re: QEMU Bridged networking over wifi + subnet stuff
Got it joined to the domain (apparently I had to use MYDOMAINNAME.local and not DOMAINNAME )
So my initial problem is solved, but now I have a new one... it seems I cannot see this computer from other LAN computers. If I try pinging it, it tells me 'destination host unreachable'

QEMU Bridged networking over wifi + subnet/NAT stuff
I've been trying to set up a gaming machine with KVM VGA passthrough. I've got the VGA passthrough working. Unfortunately, my apartment doesn't come wired for ethernet, so I must use wifi. The sticky thread isn't particularly helpful there. I found a solution that gets me internet access , but while...

I tried the second link you posted but I get this: "Sorry, the page you were looking for in this blog does not exist." Can you check again and post a link that shows? Sorry about that! I had typed in my device IDs into the URL bar and forgot :D Link fixed! I am a little confused as to wha...

Windows + Linux and Xen
I only have one graphics card; I'd like to do VGA passthrough to Windows, and then run an X server on windows and connect back to dom0. It's a little ass-backwards, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. Problem is, I have no idea how to do it. (I know it can be done, as it's mentioned here: http://...

This would be really nice. I'm using LMDE as my host (dom0) for XEN, and the relevant threads are indeed quite scattered.

Re: We need a serious evlauation of the LMDE "rolling releas
i think that most of the guys who demand more features don't understand what the actual situation is: Linux Mint gets about 10.000 $ by donations or sponsors every month. With this money you can't afford a big team that can do all the work that many of you are asking for. I think that the Mint staf...

Re: We need a serious evlauation of the LMDE "rolling releas
For all back-end/system stuff, I'm fine with waiting a few months for updates. For a lot of my user apps (such as Firefox), I want updates as they come out, and waiting isn't really an option for me. Ditto (flagging of apps) like backports get a express lane thru 8) P.S. FF and couple others are ma...

Re: We need a serious evlauation of the LMDE "rolling releas
What I'd like to see is a convenient way to keep update packs... but then flag individual packages (and dependencies) to keep updated from Testing. For all back-end/system stuff, I'm fine with waiting a few months for updates. For a lot of my user apps (such as Firefox), I want updates as they come ...
