Re: the best KDE distro
Slightly offtopic, but I am trying to download Pardus, as I heard it's the most polished KDE distro around. Thing is when I click on the download link for Pardus 2011, it prompts me for a username and password. Is everyone else facing this problem? Or is there another place to download it? http://w...

Re: GTK programs used in Mint KDE
honestly using oxygen-gtk or even qt-curve for gtk app appearance I don't notice a real difference. I agree with the performance part though

Re: Install Gnome 3 on Julia?
Good luck. It makes me feel better that you're testing on a new install. sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-desktop/gnome3-builds apt update && apt install gnome-desktop3  Even if I wasn't I would never try this without first making a back-up  thank you for the help I will report ...

Re: Install Gnome 3 on Julia?
Then your only remaining option is to install Ubuntu 11.04 and upgrade to GNOME3 with the official GNOME PPA. :( What I was going to try was using said PPA on mint 10 and seeing what works. It will be a fresh install anyway so I see no reason not to give it a whirl. If it doesn't work I will come b...

Re: Install Gnome 3 on Julia?
I would prefer to use mint. I won't have internet in week or two so waiting for mint 11 is out of the picture (will be without internet for a couple months) and I don't like arch, fedora, or openSUSE.

Re: Install Gnome 3 on Julia?
well I don't care about mint menu but like mint update and mint install. will they die? mintUpdate won't show in the panel, but I don't see why it and mintInstall would stop functioning. I made an edit in my original post, are you running Linux Mint 10 KDE? I'm not sure if you can just go from KDE ...

Re: Install Gnome 3 on Julia?
Here's a guide I found. I wouldn't necessarily recommend doing it on your main desktop OS. http://www.webupd8.org/2010/10/install-gnome-shell-from-git-in-ubuntu.html would it mess with any of my minty tools? Fundamentally changes the panel to gnome-shell, so in that respect - yes. well I don't care...

Re: openSUSE 11.4 vs Kmint 10
My problem with openSUSE is I don't need most of Yasts functions and the ones that I do need are more complicated than the stock function that yast breaks. Some people may use openSUSE and love it but not me.

Re: openSUSE 11.4 vs Kmint 10
Thank you for your input but I already went ahead and tried openSUSE. Never again. Yast makes a lot of tasks more complicated then they need to (i.e. changing the login screen) and then makes it impossible to just use the default gui for changing the login screen. why there is even a need for Yast o...

Re: make an Iso of my Kmint 10
thank you. I chose remastersys and it works perfectly..... or did. I tried to install some new software and stuff and make a new one but it didn't work.
EDIT: fixed it. I simply deleted /home/remastersys/
