Re: Conky Showoff thread
 The "Conky Guy" strikes again! So, why am I here? I'm running LM Cinnamon on my aging iMac since the machine was acting up with other distros. Anyway, as I was skimming through the forums, I spotted your alias. Meanwhile thanks for the espresso. Gotta keep the old bones shakin'!

Re: add archey & screenfetch to ppa?
My bad, a brain fart, I meant repos and not ppa. But, yes, I was thinking about something simple and visual (with distro logo) for newbies, even though inxi provides much more info.

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 “Rosa” Cinnamon released!
To Clem and all who've contributed, Rosa is the most polished version of Cinnamon I've seen anywhere...and I've tried a few. Many thanks, I love it!

add archey & screenfetch to ppa?
After reinstalling and setting up Cinnamon recently on my iMac, I noticed that neither archey nor screenfetch is available via the ppa. Is there a reason for this? I realize that there is ample instruction how to do this online via the terminal, but other distros (e.g., Manjaro) offer both with thei...

Re: Debian Jesse
FWIW, Debian Sid/Unstable is surpisingly stable. Personally, I prefer it to testing. I ran #! Sid aka #! Animal for ca. 3 months with no problems after updates and upgrades. I also had no problems when I ran LMDE 1, which I prefer to Mint 17.1. Will try LMDE 2 soon. As for Systemd, I don't have a pr...

Re: 4 OS Multi-Boot Setup w/ Linux Mint
@ Neural: You'd be better off installing either rEFI or rEFInd, which will give you an EFI boot loader and make dual- and multi-booting easier. I dual boot my iMac using an EFI boot loader, as well as the following partitions: /BIOS boot, /root, SWAP, /home. In your case, the GRUB bootloader would i...

Re: If not Mint, then...
I have neither the inclination nor the patience for Arch or Gentoo, but I'm comfortable with Debian and Debian-based distros such as Vsido and Siduction. Meanwhile, I look forward to seeing what the former CrunchBang community, now known as BunsenLabs, develops.

Re: Netflix & Amazon Streaming Issues
^ I agree. Netflix works for me with Fedora Cinnamon, and worked with 17.1 Cinnamon, but not with LMDE. which I prefer over the standard Mint 17.1. FWIW, even after updating to Chrome 41.0, I still got the error message when I tried to watch Netflix. Luckily, I have a Roku Box and can watch films on...

Re: How to convert Debian into LMDE?
There's no point in trying to convert Debian Wheezy into LMDE, unless you have too much time on your hands. If you want bleeding edge, updated software, I recommend upgrading Wheezy to sid/unstable, which IHMO is more stable than testing and you can update/upgrade regularly. Check the Debian forums ...

I've tried it but feel that it still needs much work. I realize that it's a tech preview, so perhaps I'll give it another go at another time.

Re: Thank You Apple! Or Why I love Mint even more.
I'm also a long-time Apple/Mac user. My first PC was an Apple IIC that you booted with a 5 1/2" floppy! There was an interregnum of sorts for a couple of years when we had a Compaq running Windows 98 SE, which I later turned into a Linux box running OpenSUSE when we got another Mac. My current ...

Re: Elementary OS - cant connect Wifi
First of all, can you connect with your ethernet cable? Since I haven't tried Elementary, I'm not sure about the distro and how it performs with your notebook. Does the Elementary use Network Manager or another app to access you wifi? You might try installing wicd from your ppa or software/package m...

Re: My Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 2009 Macbook Experience
^When we bought the iMac, I thought it would be the best choice for my freelance work, but I soon found that I disliked Apple and OSX more than i thought--and that after years as a long-time user. It's good hardware, however, and I'll dual-boot as long as my wife still prefers OSX over Linux. I rare...

Re: What made you switch to Linux Mint?
I've also wondered whether Clem & co. might consider switching to a Debian base in the future. CrunchBang and Watt OS used to be Ubuntu based and are now Debian based. If Mint (and not just LMDE) should be based on Debian stable, more adventurous Mint users might consider changing their source f...

Re: My Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 2009 Macbook Experience
@DarkDaedelus: Interesting post, which I'm sure will help some Mac users out there. But I have to ask: a MacBook with Windows, Mint, and no OSX? Sounds like you've figured out things well despite the configuration. I've run Linux on both my old MacBook (since deceased) and my 2009 iMac, and ...
