Re: Microsoft phone scam from India

Had one of those calls, couldn't figure out what she was saying, thought she was the phone sex girl I'd clicked on in the pr0n box earlier. Asked her what she was wearing, offered to penetrate her firewall, she had no idea what I was talking about either .... job done. Sent from my Cyanogenmodded GNex

Re: What oses yall running?

Running Windows 7 dual boot with mint 13.

Mostly I use win since I can't get the sound blaster 3di on my alienware m14x r2 to work under Linux.

Re: Can't log into my computer

Boot from a live CD, mount the offending system, chroot into it, change the password. Will post proper instructions later, I'm mobile right now so its kind of hard. Maybe my hints will help you find a step by step on google? Edit: Found a easy guide for you ... http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/linux/r...

Re: Broken packages for skype, others

It's because linux mint "latest" repository is out of sync with debian multimedia at this point. You can fix it by pointing your repo sources at mainline debian testing instead of mint "latest" but it may not be as stable. Change your sources to look like; deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian m...

Re: cut/copy then paste lost problem

As above. In linux, the clipboard is cleared when you close the application you copied from. If you have a clipboard manager installed you can circumvent this behaviour. Kde comes with klipper as standard but you will have to instal something like parcellite or clipit in other desktop environments. ...

Has the installer been improved any? Can it recognise encrypted partitions yet?

We need to wait for an update from the Gwibber developers I think.

As far as I can tell we can only get repos for kde 4.6.5 at the moment. 4.7 shouldn't be too far though.

Re: What is the most userfriendly Linux distro ?

I started with gnome and it made sense straight away. Four years later I'm still using gnome. Not sure about gnome 3 yet but 2.3 is very user friendly.

Re: Gnome 3?

Everything new bites at first when it comes to software. Kde 4 used to suck in the early days now it's slick. Windows Vista sucked but after some tweaks it was re released as W7 and heralded with much acclaim.

Re: Back to the Best (Linux Mint 9)

I run mint 9 lxde on my netbook. It's my ever reliable backup computer if something gets borked on my main laptop running lmde. The netbook will stay on mint 9 until mint 13 lxde gets released. As it's rock solid stable and fast I see no reason to mess with it, apart from some ppa for updated apps. ...

Re: Nvidia drivers installed : black screen at reboot

Happened to me this morning while I was converting an encrypted debian squeeze install into lmde. It seems nvidia-glx does not depend on the linux headers for your kernel. The module will not install correctly but you can only see the error in the terminal. If you install from synaptic, it will info...

Cancer isn't all bad either - it teaches you what is really important in life. Not money or status but your health, family and friends.

Having said that, the world would be a better place without cancer.

Re: LMDE Acting strange

Yes for some unknown reason the lmde installer creates references to /dev/sr0 and /dev/fd0 (cd drive and floppy) even if they are not present.
You can safely delete these two lines from /etc/fstab

Re: Flash player audio distortion

The latest x64 flash player resolves the issue. It is not in the repos yet but if one downloads it directly from adobe and drops it into ones mozilla plugin directory things become normal once again.
