Re: Cinnamon theming changes in 18.1
Thanks very much for the replies.
Trying to get psyched up to rewriting my gtk3 theme too, as it's now partially broken.

Cinnamon theming changes in 18.1
My Cinnamon theme is pretty much broken with the new version, and I don't know where to start in figuring out what has changed, so I can fix it.
Are other Cinnamon theme authors using an up-to-date theme template as a base? Or is there new theming documentation?

Thanks very much.mattlach wrote:Hopefully they will fix this, so a hack like this is no longer needed.
Edit: this only works here when I log off. On boot, it has no effect.

Re: Can I remove some startup applications? Nivida, for example?
Leave the Ctrl Alt Backspace one. If something crashes, it can sometimes be your only way to solve it, as the key combination takes you to the login screen. Ah, so if I understand you, I could push Ctrl Alt Backspace right now and it would simply take me to the login screen? And that's sort of an e...

Re: Can I remove some startup applications? Nivida, for example?
What part of the start process takes much time: The time until the login screen appears or the time after you have entered the credentials for your account? In the first case the autostart programs are not related with any delay. And if it's the first part, my guess would be graphics drivers relate...

It's unlikely to be causing a long boot time.

Re: 18.1 disapearing desktop icons?
I'm also having the same issue. It stopped working when I upgraded from 18 to 18.1 (Cinnamon) I'm running dual monitors with Nvidia driver. Workaround suggested by d00med also works for me, alternatively killing nemo with nemo -q , then open file manager (to start nemo). Can someone help me make a ...

Re: 18.1 disapearing desktop icons?
I have this issue too, after updating from 18 to 18.1. I don't use an SSD, I have dual monitors, but desktop icons only display on my secondary monitor. I can see the icons flash for a second on my primary monitor when booting, but then they disappear. I can make them reappear if I open the desktop ...

Two Worlds. An Action RPG - run around with a sword, getting awesome loot. I've been looking for a game like this for a long time. It was $1.50 on Gog and it works well with PlayOnLinux.

2.82 is the stable upstream version Ubuntu uses as well.

Re: Fun With Doom 2 and GZDoom
You mean mouse freelook? All of the source ports support it, including GZDoom, so Total Chaos will as well.sphyrth wrote:Does Total Chaos support vertical aiming? I mean that would be one great change in game mechanic that I happen to like.

Re: Microphone input is recording sound output.
You might try pavucontrol.
Did you try using F4 in alsamixer to go to the capture tab?
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

Fun With Doom 2 and GZDoom
There's some great things happening with this old game and it's amazing that talented map makers are still using the engine. Get GZDoom or sudo apt-add-repository 'deb http://debian.drdteam.org/ stable multiverse' wget -O - http://debian.drdteam.org/drdteam.gpg | sudo apt-key add - sudo apt-get upda...

It may not be less secure than .deb packages in X11, but it doesn't seem to be more secure, which is often claimed.

Gunscape is a nice little time waster. You can quickly jump into someone else's co-op game.
Legends of Yore is another nice one.

Re: Mint 17 boots to login screen
I've checked the syslog and dmesg, but I can't really find anything. Print dmesg to a text file, and check the times for anomalies. dmesg > dmesg.txt gedit dmesg.txt Very helpful, thanks. Re: Mint 17 boots to login screen
Menu > Administration > Login Window Preferences > Auto login > uncheck Enable Timed Login Thanks. It still boots to the login screen but with that unchecked, I have to log in manually. Auto login is enabled, so it's not that. Another peculiarity is that the bootup process takes a ponderously long ...

Mint 17 boots to login screen
It's supposed to boot to the desktop. Like a default install of Mint. But instead it boots to the login screen, where I have to wait ten seconds for the auto login. I'm the only user on this computer, and there's only one user account so the login screen isn't needed. Nothing in the MDM settings pan...

Re: You can't fully disable Win10 spying
You can disable it in Win7 and 8, but it just gets installed again with updates.
I have a Win7 partition, which I rarely use. Not so much because of the spying - I just think Windows is an ugly mess. It hurts me in my soul just to look at it.
