Having to restart X in order to have descent battery lifetime

I’m having a weird issue regarding autonomy on a Dell XPS 15 (9550) with Linux Mint 18 Mate. If I boot normally and log in (in MDM), I have a short 3~4 hours battery life (when idling) Also, CPU temp is around 38 °C. Powertop displays a power consumption of 14~18 W. If I boot normally and log in, th...

Re: [SOLVED] Intel Card, LM17, Compiz, HDMI problems

I rediscovered the problem today.
The problem came from the “texture compression” in the OpenGL section (in CCSM), that has to be uncheckt to work (activating it cause trouble).

Re: Intel Card, LM17, Mate+Compiz, HDMI projector problems

Actually I figured out just now that it came from Compiz (on another computer running LM17 with the same hardware, there was no problem). I tried on another session on my laptop : – without compiz : no problem. – with compiz : no problem. The problem came with my Compiz Config Settings. I do not kno...

[SOLVED] Intel Card, LM17, Compiz, HDMI problems

[EDIT : the problem came from Compiz, see post #4] Hello, I use LM17, with mate, with compiz on a recent Clevo computer, with Intel i3 Haswell and a integrated Intel HD4000 chip. [HowTo] Install and activate Notify-osd in Mate (LM14)

Hi all ! When installing the package "ubuntu" « notify-osd », it does not apply automatically (the mate notification daemon remains), but it works when you launch it by manually. Here is to make it as default. First install Notify-Osd : sudo apt-get install notify-osd Edit the file /usr/share/dbus-1...

Re: Opera

Oh, fine : this seems to be the reason :

in the file /etc/apt/preferences you can see the "priorities" for repositories. Deleting that file fixes all my problems.

(even if it will create many more…)

Thanks a lot :)

Re: Opera

I exactly did what was explained on your first link. But, the opera repository gives the version 10.63 (see here : http://deb.opera.com/opera/dists/stable/non-free/binary-i386/Packages ) And the LM repos gives the 10.62. Why is it not updated with a sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude safe-upgrade...

[Solved] Opera

Hi all. I've upgraded to LM Julia for a week, but I can't install Opera from the * official * repository : I ran this command line to active the repository and add the GPG Key : sudo bash -c 'echo "deb http://deb.opera.com/opera/ sid non-free" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/opera.list' && wget -O - http:...
