Just to reflect upon an old saying: "Fix it until it's broken; if you can't fix it, don't break it!" :)

Re: Driver manager has disappeared

Turns out something bad was happening to my installation.

For my (our?) information: how was that bad induced; by you or by something/someone from the outside? For the moment just curious (but extremely so)!

Then, I saved the text file in a newly-created folder: Home/bin Well, that's something you know, but.. your computer doensn't! Re: Installing Mint as dual-boot on old WinXP laptop

@Brainstorm: I have two old machines (bought in 2008 (local shop, no brand) resp 2009 (Sony laptop) both were XP-machines. 2 1/2 year ago I deleted XP after installing Linux Mint MATE-desktop on both. Very fine machines since then. In my opinion it's the Desktop environment that is decisive for the ...

Don't know the answer.
However I always make an image of my whole HDD the very moment I start doubting its integrity. Advise you to take the same attitude and precaution at least to this disk!

Re: Force software mixing for USB-to-stereo adapter?

A wild shot: Ever tried to plug all computer-connected apparatus in the same wall-socket? (Thus excluding earth-loops) This gave me the thought (I had such a noise once myself): In my case the noise is only when I plug in a second monitor (actually, I mostly use a projector; this is all for movie ni...

Re: Need for Marco

As far as I - a relative newbee - understand Debian-based systems, you have mixed up the hidden files, which contain all settings of the system( s in this case), of your two systems. Those files are in the HOME-directory and can be made visible by hitting Control-H. No, unfortunately I can't give yo...

Mine is a 2008 computer too. I was then just aware of 64-bits processors. Re: Canon MX490 printer doesn't work in linuxmint 17.3

Here are the rpm-packages (Use alien was an old advise)
http://www.canon-printerdrivers.com/2015/04/canon-pixma-mx490-driver-download-mac.html I hope - did NOT test - they are indeed down-loadable, can be reformed to deb-s and that they do the job.

Re the line marked red:
menuentry "Linux Mint 18" {
set root=(hd1,6)
linux /vmlinuz root=(hd1,6) ro quiet splash
initrd /initrd.img
}

Please check: AFAIK: grub counts diskdrives from 0 ( zero) and partitions from 1 (one)
So sda6 should be: (hd0,6)

Although you have a different AIO from mine, I guess going for scangearmp2* on the Canon-site will do the trick (after installation of course)

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Update manager not working

Partly off-topic in reply to COSMO
It's the way I update/upgrade since: Isadora in Mint and Ifty Ibex in Ubuntu. Never had any trouble. I'l grant you this: I don't do distibution-upgrades this way.
So can you explain further please?
