This seems to be a recurring issue with the realtek hardware, I bought a toshiba laptop abount a month ago now and right out of the box with winblows 8 the wifi was sketchy and the hardwire didn't work at all.

fluxbox is still in most of the repos? I have cinnamin mint 13 with flux installed, works fine for me.

Um its fluxbox, the start button doesnt exist, right context menu is used for most everything.

I have roughly 4 yr old laptop as well, while mint 10 and 11 run well, I kinda got used to 9, just seemed snappier on this machine.

they are simply 'what happens' in a rolling release Imho it doesn't excuse the issues. Yes there is an expectation of issues with a rolling release, I just think the debian devs could do a much better job of quality control, smacks of laziness when they dont. you might try reinstalling by opening a terminal and typing

sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
you will be prompted for a password, it should be your normal login pass.

I have not tried to re download the driver because I could not figure out how to do it. I am new to linux. I have only had mint 9 on my laptop for a month. I guess ill look further into how to do this. Only thing I really know how to do with linux so far is reformat and reinstall. which version of ...

its also possible the internal monitor crapped out, have you re installed the driver, either from the repos or maunally?

My first guess would be something in the game boned the driver, but thats just a guess, without more info its impossible to know.

Actually with Mint ( many other distros ) installing software in most cases couldn't be simpler. Fire up software manager/synaptic, do a search for whatever kind of app/prog you want to install ( or check likely categories ). Click search, find it, click install ... done. Any decent distro is going...
