Re: Cinnamon 2.2 on LMDE/SID

One last update on this: Cinnamon 2.2.16-4 did make it into Debian Testing ... just before the Jessie Freeze . This "old" thread is about LMDE and sid, so all of my posts have been "off topic" - especially given the new Debian Stable path for LMDE, which will include 2.4. And the Jessie freeze won't...

Re: Cinnamon 2.2 on LMDE/SID

Cinnamon 2 migration into Debian Testing has been stymied due to kFreeBSD compatibility issues. If memory serves me, this was THE issue concerning 2.2.16-1 migration, and is THE issue concerning 2.2.16-3 migration - see excuses . There's good news on this front: Debian Jessie Might Get Rid Of The kF...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2014/07/msg00361.html It's almost a lock now that Jessie will use the 3.16 kernel. A major reason given is Ubuntu 14.10's use of kernel 3.16 and "Ubuntu kernel team [support] for about 15-18 months after distro release (October 2014)". This would seem to be ano...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

GeneB, I'm getting the same result. Edit: Actually, I did not have it installed. And I don't think DU removed it, I just didn't have it installed. I've been having to authenticate to shut down, and your xfce4-power-manager --dump command has unearthed my problem: root@asus:/home/chris# xfce4-power-m...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [16-07-14]

If I understand this correctly, this is fixed in version 1.2.0-5 of xfce4-power-manager, which should migrate to testing in a couple of days . Upgrade to xfce4-power-manager 1.2.0-5 from SID breaks the desktop. Appears other packages are needed for a proper fix. Best to wait.. Gene, xfce4-power-man...

Re: Would you like LMDE to be based on Stable, not on Testin

I think clem's been slowly headed in this direction since going with the UP scheme. With Debian Testing these days, it's easy enough to download, install, and season to flavor. clem's dropping XFCE pushed me to Debian, and while I wasn't happy with that at the time, I'm happy with it now. Of course,...

Re: Jumping to Testing or Sid

Hi zerozero, thanks, but I was more interested on how that works under the hood: if lmde and sparkylinux/#! are both pointing at the debian repos, what differentiates them, aside the graphical environment? I'm maybe just confused on how distros are built: debian testing + some linuxmint stuff = lmd...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [13-06-13]

Also, many menu items are missing in XFCE. Something wrong with XDG? My menu doesn't seem to be affected, but items seem to be missing from my XFCE Settings. http://release.debian.org/migration/accepted.html 70 packages are going in right now. One of them is xfce4-settings: trying to update xfce4-s...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [13-06-13]

Now for the kernel upgrade to 3.9, I have AMD Athlon X2 processor, nvidia graphics and use the nouveau driver. Is it safe to upgrade? narendra, even in the last Testing-wheezy cycle, I can't remember anyone having nouveau issues due to kernel upgrades. Maybe there was one time early on, but the iss...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING [13-06-13]

linux-headers-amd64 is not installed. Perhaps I'm missing that one? yes, i believe that this is the problem: you need linux-headers-<your-arch> and linux-image-<your-arch> to keep getting the latest headers and image today's DU zz, that was it. Should have known that from the last Testing cycle. Th...

Re: Upgrade Warnings: LMDE tracking TESTING

Good call on a new thread, double Z. I'm busier than I want to be, but still looking forward to this. It'll be interesting to see who's still at it with Testing. I'm assuming this will affect Chrome Stable, too. Are you guys pointing to any mint repos? Mine: # deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debi...

Re: Jumping to Testing or Sid

zz, real nice. Just popping in to say hello. GeneC - (4%'er) :D , have you messed around with Schoelje's LMDX edition ? It looks very nice. I think I'm going to give his 64-bit version a "damn the torpedoes" install go this weekend. I need to read up on it, but if it's using UP, I'll go full Testing...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

Setting UTC options in /etc/default/rcS was deprecated sometime ago. I don't know if it still works as a legacy setting. The current method for setting UTC is to edit /etc/adjtime and change the last line to read either UTC or LOCAL. Thank You Chris M and squeezy. I know that time settings are now ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

@jackmetal and @mockturti: Thanks for responding. My BIOS clock is already set to UTC. Both LMDE and Crunchbang have ntp installed, but I only can see LMDE writing the time to the BIOS clock during shutdown, and still get the time wrong at every boot. The time is off by varying degrees, from more t...

Re: The "Freeze" is coming - what will you do?

Staying put, zz. XFCE 4.10 didn't come close to making it into Wheezy, but from what I've seen, we're looking at modest (very) XFCE development. No problem. I won't be grabbing it from sid. But since clem is doing an Ubuntu-based XFCE, maybe he pushes 4.10 on his end. My only issue with Testing righ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

First problem ever using smxi - sgfxi. Bought an ASUS AMD Radeon HD 6670. Nice card (big bang for the buck). But this was the sgfxi error message: ERROR: (226) The driver you selected: 12-4 does not support your current Xorg version: 1.12 If this is wrong, please let the script maintainer know. You ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - tracking TESTING - updated 15 May

viking, I think Gene was verifying zz' recommendation to change your apt preferences file (etc/apt/preferences) settings if you're going to roll along in Testing. clem's apt preferences settings work for his Latest scheme, but if you're going to go with pure Debian Testing (repos), clem's default Pi...
