Re: Is the LXDE project dead?

LXDE is definitely doing better and gaining popularity :) Indeed it's and I see more users are shifting from other DEs to LXDE daily. I am just an end user, still i feel that even though Development may be slow, LXDE is mature and stable :) Don't underestimate the power/ability of the end user :) w...

Hello HOOHAA Pleasure talking to you. Same here, thanks :) Looks like you have got a younger brother from a different mother :D ;) :P It is thumb sucking baby, but will grow up as KDE is going is more concentrating on touch screen devices. Time will tell and it's really great to have more DEs but f...

Re: Is the LXDE project dead?

There is another DE: Razor-Qt: A New Lightweight Desktop Environment Based On QT Just incase something happens to LXDE :) I have installed it on Xubuntu 11.04 (which I never use on daily basis but keep it for testing as I do a lot of testing) and ... it needs more time to be used on daily basis. It...

Re: Is the LXDE project dead?

Have you tried the PepperMint-OS . . . there is a reason, it has the word Mint in it's name. Made and designed by some of the same Devs that work on Mint - uses the LXDE desktop enviroment by default. PepperMint-OS is light on resources, very fast - and still Minty-fresh. PepperMint-OS > ...

Re: Is the LXDE project dead?

Anybody know what is happening with the http://lxde.org website? Past two months or so I've tried, but I haven't been able to access it. And it seems to be down for everybody (using this web check). I also tried connecting to IP address directly, but now even OpenDNS and Google DNS (checked with "d...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE installed on Omni Book 4150 PII Laptop

I can't believe that I'm back again to that old laptop :) last night, I could sleep so I decided plug it in and turn it on and it's on for the last 10 hours now. I have managed to update and upgrade it, both applications and Kernel and I have managed to remove some packages like Power Management, Up...

Re: Hello, I'd like to Join Mint's Team

Providing support to users on the forums and the IRC Channel #linuxmint-help,#linuxmint-debian is a good way to keep active with the community and to give back. Forum support is one of the most interesting things that I like to do and I do it best. Thanks :) As for IRC, I don't really like it. You ...

Hello, I'd like to Join Mint's Team

Hello Everyone, First of all, I'm NOT a developer and can't be one at the moment :) Long story short, Mint is one of the distributions that one can't ignore no matter what. It's taking the lead in the top 5 in Distrowatch for a long time now and it's finally on TOP1/RANK1 after beating Ubuntu, the b...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE installed on Omni Book 4150 PII Laptop

You'll probably want to hang onto gnome-keyring, do some Google searches for why it's important. To cut back on idle ram usage I suggest removing things such as mintUpdate from the autostart file. Regarding Openbox configuration there are some good resources online, notably some of the documentatio...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE installed on Omni Book 4150 PII Laptop

Hello Kendall :) Just a quick note regarding desktop environments and window managers. It's difficult to get a well integrated desktop environment that's lighter than LXDE. Agreed, it's difficult but not impossible :) You might try Enlightenment as it's lighter on some systems but in my experience t...

Re: Mint 9 LXDE installed on Omni Book 4150 PII Laptop

Linux Mint 9 LXDE was installed on my PC (P4 3.0 GHz - 512MB RAM) and it's using 105MB of the Physical RAM and yes, it's a fresh installation with nothing added yet. I've been trying many distributions with that laptop. I'm now connecting the HDD of that laptop to my PC using USB-Enclosure and I jus...

apt-get update/Synaptic Error

Hello everyone, I'm sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section and I'm sorry if this had been discussed already. I'm using Linux Mint 9 LXDE. Fresh install, 2-3 days ago. Long story short, I have had this issue with many other distributions (which are based on Debian) and I solved it by following thi...

LONG STORY SHORT

Looks like my first post is too much complicated to be understood. I'll make it easier for everyone :) How to install: a) Fluxbox b) Openbox c) IceWM and replace LXDE in Mint 9? How to un-install LXDE????? I don't need LXDE, I need something lighter like the above WMs. I guess installing any WM cou...
