Re: Chrome misbehaving strangely on clean Mint 13 MATE 64-bi

I'm having issues with Chrome as well in LMDE. Even after deleting my ~/.config/chromium folder, and doing a COMPLETE uninstall of Chrome in synaptic, when I download the deb again for Chrome and install it, everything BUT facebook loads. My opinion? Chrome is complete garbage, reluctantly I've had ...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - Jun 14th

A FIX report for once. The latest upgrades to xorg / xorg-video-intel finally solved the nagging issue of frequent but intermittent issue of getting a blank fb screen with a _ cursor instead of KDM/GDM login screen.

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - May 5th

essentially do a dist-upgrade ... omitting packages whose upgrade would cause the removal of other packages I have installed on the system? That's exactly what aptitude safe-upgrade does. 8) apt-listbugs won't notify you when bugs are resolved, so you wouldn't want it automatically holding packages...

Re: LMDE BREAKAGES - (Tracking SID!) - May 5th

I've noticed for quite some time now upgrading packages related to Gnome3 is going to break Cinnamon. Is there a thread on any of the forums tracking the progress of the Clem and other Mint Developers in making a new version of Cinnamon that will be compatible with these updates? It's interesting ho...

Suggestions for making Cinnamon more user-friendly

I ran into some annoyances when trying out Cinnamon today, my purpose of posting this is not to troll, or troll-bait to suggest ways to improve areas of Cinnamon that are less than intuitive/efficient. Needing to log in and out for simple desktop changes like moving the panel bar, or changing the wi...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 22

I ALWAYS pay attention to apt-listbugs, it's my best friend on this sid system. However as I stated in my first post, I upgraded BEFORE this hit apt-listbugs  note to self: never run package updated after midnight or before 8am

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 5

I seem to have caught MAJOR breakage tonight. Whatever bug it is killed my X-Server, and hasn't made it into apt-listbugs yet, I'm guessing the guilty buggy package is gconf2, but really not sure as when I DOWNGRADED gconf2 to Wheezy's version nothing changed. X server starts then IMMEDIATELY dies a...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 5

Re-installing it, it got caught by apt-listbugs: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=663016 looks like I musta downloaded the buggy version before the bug was reported to apt-listbugs. I reinstalled 0.75.4 which doesn't segfault, however it doesn't invoke kdesu/gksu. Manually invoking g...

Re: KDE 4.74 "upgarde" frustration, especially with Menu Cra

turns out it was some conflict with compiz, disabling it fixed the menu issue. Guess it's a sign of how depreciated compiz is becoming :( Sad as KDE's compositor feels like a stripped down version of compiz.

Re: different wallpaers for virtual desktops?

It was a conflict with compiz, I'm playing around with Compiz off anf using KDE's built in compositor. Feels a bit antiquated and will take some getting used to but at least my menus and multiple desktop wallpapers are working again.

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 5

Running Sid, Using synaptic_0.75.5_amd64 ... Synaptic will open long enough to see the window then it crashes. Running Synaptic from the terminal gave me these cryptic error messages of which googling provided no help. $ /usr/sbin/synaptic (synaptic:3759): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set_data...

KDE 4.74 "upgarde" frustration, especially with Menu Crash

I "upgraded" my LMDE Sid to KDE 4.74 today. What a tragic mistake that was! My plasma panel lost the task manager, came up with an "unknown application" icon in the quick launch area. Trying to move the widgets to where I wanted them on the plasma bar was an exercise is frustration ! I finally got i...

Re: LMDE (Tracking SID, or..) BREAKAGES! - Mar 5

I see kmod is currently flagged by apt-listbugs.

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662891

I notice in the bug report it says the bug (only?) breaks debian kernels. I roll my own kernel from liquorix source. Does anyone know if this bug affects liquorix kernels?

Re: Openjdk 7

I'm running using sid repositories  At one point I mucked around to get sun-java-plugin and removed the iced tea stuff, now reverting back may prove a bit tricky. [edit]: trickier than expected! apt-listbugs caught the following grave bug in Sid's version of ca-certificates-java http://bugs.deb...

Openjdk 7

Is there a way to test out OpenJDK 7 as a plugin for Mozilla based browsers in LMDE? According to this (obviously incorrect) wiki: http://wiki.debian.org/Java icedtea-plugin should install OpenJDK 7, however it installs OpenJDK 6. Is it as easy as just downloading the OpenJDK 7 jre and editing plugi...

Re: Cinnamon, Gnome 3, XFCE, KDE, and the Death of Ubuntu

The current Gnome 3/Unity tablet interface is IMO crap and useless. Love my Xoom tablet but the interface doesn't belong on the desktop, the Devs need to get a clue! Thanks Clem for bringing sanity back! Indeed, it seems Clem is the only sane dev out there who gets what a desktop/laptop DE should b...

Re: Cinnamon, Gnome 3, XFCE, KDE, and the Death of Ubuntu

No matter how many dumb moves Mr Shuttlesworth makes, the installed base is huge and won't erode as quickly as you (and I for that matter) hope. Ooh and let's not forget the vaunted SERVER edition. For the admin who is lazy, uninformed, and not security conscious in the least.. Ubuntu Server LTS!!!...

Re: Cinnamon, Gnome 3, XFCE, KDE, and the Death of Ubuntu

(Elementary OS is your friend if attention to aesthetics is very important to you.) Clearly it is, as that was one of my pet peeves with XFCE, the aesthetics were poor. Secondly Cinnamon is already more flexible and configurable than gnome-panel, it's just that at the moment - until users start wri...

Cinnamon, Gnome 3, XFCE, KDE, and the Death of Ubuntu

I've been a long time Debian user. I was a KDE user back in the 3.5 days. I liked how in the KDE 3.5 release you could configure damn near everything, from the color of the digital clock, to the system's default color scheme. I like having that wide range of control at my fingertips. Then one day wh...
