PL2303 usb-serial Port Not Enumerating
I've spent 3 days wading through the forums here and several other places and still have no luck. I have PL2303 (G) usb to serial cable that my Mint 19.3 won't enumerate. The system detects the cable just fine (per lsusb) but does not assign a tty port to it (per dmesg). The usbserial and pl2303 dri...

Mint 20.x Install Fails in Strange Way
Greetings all... I've been "playing": with this since 20.0 (Cinnamon) came out, and now here we are at 20.2 and it still not working. Time to get some expert help! The short version is that I have 19.3 on my PC (have had it since it was released) and there are no issues. When I install 20....

Re: Getting Android Studio to Work
This issue is still ongoing. No real change. Following my suspicion that this is a video issue, I did find a few references to needing the open source nVidia driver(s), but I've had no luck actually finding something that looks like it will work with Mint 18. The lack of replies here also makes me w...

Mint 15, Thunderbird, and Yahoo POP
I have an odd issue that I can't resolve. Any help is appreciated! I have the paid Yahoo mail account and so can POP my mail. Thunderbird POP will often fail with note that the RETR command failed. If I go to the web mail and delete the LAST (oldest) message, Thunderbird will POP a few more messages...

Re: Ghost Window on Screen - SOLVED
Turning off the effects seemed to fix the problem.
I've sent a number of emails from Thunderbird, and no repeat of the ghost window. Before, it was happening on every mail the spell checker failed to find any spelling errors.
Thanks again!

Re: Ghost Window on Screen
I just gave that a fast try, and it seems to work on a couple of tests.
Hopefully it will persist!

Ghost Window on Screen -- SOLVED
I'm using Mint 15 (Olivia) Cinnamon. I tried 16 but didn't care for it, so I did a freash install of 15. I'm not sure if this is a software, hardware, or OS issue. Moderators should feel free to move this topic as approrpite. When I send a message with Thunderbird (as distributed and updated by Mint...

Re: Questions About CPU Support
So, if I just download the LM10 "Standard Version" in 64-bit, that will support the dual Xeon processors? I guess what I am really asking is if the 64-bit Standard Version has multi-processor support already compiled in. And on my existing system (AMD Athlon XP 2500+), is the "Generic...

Questions About CPU Support
Hello, Folks: I started off with Mint using the LMDE, but recently changed over to LM10-Julia, and am I ever thrilled! LM10 seems both more stable and faster than LMDE, and things that I couldn't get to work in LMDE are perfect with Julia. I hesitated for a long time before making the change, but it...

Using gmFSK for Ham Radio
Hello, All: I'm using Linux Mint 10 Julia and I want to use gmFSK for BPSK digital on Ham Radio, but it seems that gmFSK wants to access /dev/dsp and that file doesn't exist I have removed the horrid pulseaudio using the procedure in the topic http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=604...

Re: How To: Completely remove PulseAudio & replace it with A
Thanks for the info, but as far as I could see, nothing changed. I'll start a new topic for this issue since, as you say, it is highly specific. Now, on a more general note... When I start the gnome ALSA Mixer, I get an error: --- An error occurred while loading or saving configuration information f...

Re: How To: Completely remove PulseAudio & replace it with A
Even to a totally unfamiliar type like me, pulseaudio is clearly the worst junk I have ever seen. I followed the great tutorial, and pulseaudio is now a thing of the past. Many thanks! But I still have one problem... I am a Ham Radio operator, and I want to use gmFSK for digital radio. The applicati...

Re: LibreOffice 3.3 Writer Not Starting
Bingo, Vincent!
That did the trick...I wasn't worried about the various customizations. That can all easily be recreated, so I tried your command, and Writer started up just fine.
Many thanks!!

LibreOffice 3.3 Writer Not Starting [SOLVED]
Hello, All: I have "upgraded" to LibreOffice 3.3 from OO and it seems that everything except Writer is working on my LMDE system. When I click on an ODT file or select Writer from the LibreOffice menu, it looks like the program is starting and I can see the document or WP window for a spli...

Re: LDME Sluggish with Flash
I've been "playing" with Chromium for a couple of hours now, and just like hanging, I could get used to it, but... Isn't switching browsers a bit like putting lipstick on a pig? I mean, yes, it got rid of the symptoms, but the problem is still there. I'll mark this topic as Partially Solve...

Re: LDME Sluggish with Flash
Maybe I don't understand how Flash interacts with the OS, browser, and video card, but wouldn't it be sluggish in Windows as well? I didn't mention that I also have FireFox on the Windows install, too. 3.6.something. Also, hammering away with various graphic applications (I am not a gamer...solitair...
