Re: Drivers for AMD APU - Xfce on KDE - disable touch mouse

What the heck are you on about here? The CPU side is supported already by the kernel in LM15, and all the extra ucode updates for the processoshould already be included in the linux-firmware or amd-ucode package (I'm not sure which one it is in Ubuntu-based systems). Er.. well.. I didnt know that.....

Drivers for AMD APU - Xfce on KDE - disable touch mouse

Posting here cus I feel like a newbie all over again. LOL Using Mint 15 KDE 64 bit I want to be sure the drivers Mint is using are the correct optimized drivers for my A-8 APU frm AMD. You know this thing is a CPU and Grapgics GPU hybrid, and i need to be sure it has drivers that make both sides the...

Re: Linux Foundation Secure Boot fix Released

So, srs5694, just to clarify, should this work with all distros even those that don't already use the shim or any otherwise UEFI compatibility? Or perhaps an older version of Mint even not based on Ubuntu 2.10? The problem with all distros using the shim approach is not all of them are going to want...

Linux Foundation Secure Boot fix Released

If anyone with a new Windows 8 PC wants to dual boot with UEFI and Secure Boot you can give this a try. The Linux Foundation has after fighting with this since November, released the new Linux Secure Boot pre-loader. http://blog.hansenpartnership.com/linux-foundation-secure-boot-system-released/ The...

Re: difference between Mint xfce and install xfce over mate?

I guess many people are loyal to their DE's apps. I look at it this way, the more i can run, the more choices i have. I'm only worried about performance hits. I haven't been a consistent Linux enough user to say I have found my favorite core apps. I'm always looking for what can do a better job. Tha...

difference between Mint xfce and install xfce over mate?

I see Mint 14 has a xfce version.. I like xfce.. i usually install it on a distro and use it half the time with mate.. but, are there advantages to using the xfce only distro without any other DE's installed?? Do the other DE's in the system cause slow downs even though they are not currently used? ...

Re: Why doesn't Mint use a Linux sublicense on the homepage?

Hi, Linux Mint is also trademarked via an LMI sub-license. I wasn't aware of the fact that attribution had to be given on the website though. I don't know if that's new or not, but it's not an issue so we're adding it now to our footer. Thanks for the reply. Yeah none of it is really an issue becau...

Re: Why doesn't Mint use a Linux sublicense on the homepage?

Thanks Xenopeek. I want folks to understand I'm not picking on Mint for asking this or implying they are doing anything wrong. A lot of other distros don't seem to use the registered trademarks either, but Mint is what I use so I asked here. I'm sure there is a simple logical explanation I missed re...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

How about we all switch to PC-BSD Isotope 9.1. It IS a great OS for the desktop that can run hundreds of thousands of apps made for it as well as run almost any Linux app you throw at it. It has the most software written for it in the history of any OS. It looks sweet too, is similar to Linux in fo...

Why doesn't Mint use a Linux sublicense on the homepage?

I have been reading stuff over at the Linux Foundation about LMI and the Linux sublicense. It would appear that using "Linux Mint" would require a registered sublicense and this should appear on the homepage (http://www.linuxmint.com) I'm getting this info from here: http://www.linuxfounda...

Re: Linux is Not Windows

I think this article is old enough not to be important anymore. In the 6 and a 1/2 years since it was written Linix has come a long way and more and mopre people know that. It's almost universality accepted that if you want good free operating system that does almost everything out of the box your W...

Re: Is there a Terminal or Bash alternative?

Cool. I don't think that was the name of this tool because this was back with Fedora 8. But it looks close to what i had in mind. I will take it for a spin and kick the tires. Thanks. I have also looked at graphical terminal replacments or those that have hybrid text and graphics. Of course you need...

Is there a Terminal or Bash alternative?

I remember years ago mucking around with Fedora there was a program that was a bash terminal replacment. It was like a front end I suppose. It has tons of features and some graphical drop down menus that would help you look up terminal commands and help you learn using the terminal just by using it....

Re: Cant get Firestorm to run in Mint 32 bit or 64 bit

I'm using Mint 14, but installed that package anyway. Thanks.. funny thing is even though you say it should be preinstalled, it did install one component it didn't have before and it updated one. System information shows 4 cores even before I ran the command you gave for the pae extentions. But it s...

Re: Cant get Firestorm to run in Mint ( 32 bit app on 64 bit

As all these apps are very similar and use mostly the same core code, i decided to try Firestorm under Mint 14 Mate 32 bit. I get the following errors.. ( new errors) libGL error: failed to load driver: r600 libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details. libGL error: failed to loa...

Anyway to override default Mouse and let gsynaptic take over

I want to disable my Synaptic Touchpad under mouse settings in Mint 14 Mate 32 bit ( using the default Mate DE). I want the device disabled forever, not just disabled on typing. Mates's default mouse/touchpad app doesn't have this ability ( only disable on typing) but gsynaptics does and I've instal...
