Acer Aspire One - Card Reader not working

My multi-card reader on my Acer Aspire will not read my SD card with LMDE. It worked under windows, so I know it's not a hardware issue. Any fixes for this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Just installed LMDE, Got it up and running, but...

EDIT: swap is now on. I really like this whole "command line" thing. :D Yes, isn't it nice to have such direct control over your system? Yes, and no. I'll tell you what: it is NOT a plug-and-play OS like Windows or Mac. But I must be a masochist... cause I like it. It still does look clunky, ...

Re: Just installed LMDE, Got it up and running, but...

How on earth did you install it? As a self-professed linux newb you probably should've just let the installer do what it wanted with your hard-drive. If you want to do it yourself do: 20GB ext4 / noatime therest ext4 /home relatime 1.2 GB swap Don't make anything extended or logical or anything lik...

Re: Just installed LMDE, Got it up and running, but...

Go to Menu>System Tools>System Monitor and check the Resources tab. You can see if it is recognizing your swap partition. It's not. On my install, I made an extended partition with 1gb of the partition a swap partition... the rest of it was my logical drive. How do I make it recognize/utilize my sw...

Yes, it's installed. I also made a swap partition... but I don't know if it's actually "working" as a swap partition right now...

My Netbook is an Acer Aspire One 523h. atom 455 1.6 ghz, 1 gb ram. HDD should be unimportant, but it's a 5400 160gb Hitachi. Now... My computer is actually booting, running, and opening apps slower than it does with windows 7 starter. My mousepad requires a heavier touch, and already has given me mu...

Re: Important: How To Fix PPP Connections in LMDE

The only live usb/cd I have IS LMDE. If I'm understanding what you're saying, then you're telling me I have to download a different version of Linux to download a fix for this version of linux, just so I can use LMDE? If this is a known issue, why is it not fixed in the "downloads" section?

Re: Important: How To Fix PPP Connections in LMDE

how are we supposed to fix this without access to the internet through a linux computer? Currently I am dual-booting win 7 and LMDE, but I can't fix LMDE because I can't connect to the internet through it. :?:

Re: newbish question, but what's the point?

LMDE uses the Mint installer, so be forewarned. I didn't find it that difficult, though. I've never installed Mint, but I found installing LMDE was very straightforward, as was every other Linux distro I've tried. Installed without a hitch. It wasn't that the other versions were "difficult to insta...

Re: Mint 10 or Fluxbox 9? Maybe a mixture?

Thank you so much for your reply. I began downloading the mint 10 version first (a whole 15 hours ago... yeah, the internet is THAT SLOW in Afghanistan) so I'm going to load it, see how it does, and then maybe d/l fluxbox later to piddle around with, or even switch to fluxbox mint 10 when it comes ...

Re: newbish question, but what's the point?

I imagine debian as water. Ubuntu as wine and mint as grape juice. The way I see it is that ubuntu keeps adding 'alcohol' while I just want grape juice. While main edition tries to take off the alcohol from the wine to deliver to me a nice grape juice, LMDE gets the watter, the grapes and makes me ...

Re: newbish question, but what's the point?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the whole point of xfce is to be as light as possible, right? If that's the case what good would it do to install in overtop of Gnome? Wouldn't you just be adding heft to something that is already heftier than xfce to begin with?

Re: newbish question, but what's the point?

Cool, that sounds great actually! Would VLC player play DVDs and ripped videos or would I have to manually search out and d/l those codecs myself? I've read that Debian is "commited to free" stuff, which would seem to make it a bit harder to just use, you know? Is that kind of right? And then, if I ...

Re: newbish question, but what's the point?

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I see what you're saying, and it sounds like Debian is more like (dare I say it?) windows in that regard... i.e. you have one release and that's it for a while, with almost daily or weekly "updates." Am I in the ballpark? So, is there a plan for an XFCE LMDE? Or...

newbish question, but what's the point?

Hey all, very new to Linux... been trying to install for a while with no luck. On the plus side though, that gives me some more time to think about which version(s) I want to put on my netbook. Kind of like window shopping, but even better ;) I am leaning towards dual booting Mint XFCE and Fluxbox, ...
