Re: How to configure Mate main menu?
I can't find Edit Menu anymore. I only have Preferences which adjusts the size of the menu and Places, etc. I can't seem to add a new Category or move items into or out of a Category. Specifically, I want a Programming tab for software which I didn't add through the Software Manager and don't show u...

How to configure Mate main menu? SOLVED
I used to be able to configure the main menu in Mate with a right click on the menu icon and select 'Configure'. That option is gone and I would like to edit the main menu to my needs. What happened to the configure option and how would I do it now? Apologies if this question has been answered previ...

Login Sound: "Initiating Startup Sequence"
Many years ago Knoppix delivered the first fully functional OS on a live CD and changed the Linux world forever. (Hurray for on-the-fly hardware detection!) My old Toshiba Satellite finally had painless multimedia! The startup and shutdown sounds on that old disto were a womans voice saying "In...

Re: Space Station Login Screen
Thanks for that explanation. I found the files online but wasn't sure how to set them up properly and didn't want to risk locking myself out of my system with a misconfigured login screen. Think I'll just stick with the default for now.

Re: Where is Mate ?
I installed Mate from Stretch backports which gave me version 1.20 but without audio integration. I did a fresh install of LMDE3 as the install was new. I then used these instructions that I found elsewhere in these forums: apt install mate-desktop-environment-core apt install atril desktop-base en...

So close and yet so far..
goldnugget@agra-jag ~ $ sudo apt-get -t jessie-backports install kodi
[sudo] password for goldnugget:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
kodi is already the newest version.

Re: Kodi upgrade?
Thank you for the suggestion. I added the repos and upgraded. Everything went fine but Kodi is still stuck at 14.2 and claims it is the newest version. Now several more addons have quit working. This version is nearly useless and all attempts at upgrading have failed. I'm definitely going to have to...

Re: Kodi upgrade?
Thank you for the clear answer. I will continue to avoid subtitles and hope for a security update soon. Even bypassing this vulnerability, this software is seriously out of date and one by one, the addons are dropping off. Eventually, I will have to find another solution. Here's hoping we can get an...

Re: Kodi upgrade?
Thanks for the replies. I've added the jessie backports and pinned/upgraded to testing but it still says I've got the latest version (14.2). I read somewhere online that kodi 17 is in the sid repositories but I'm not sure if its safe to make the big jump to the unstable package repositories to get K...

Kodi upgrade?
I've been limping along with the out of date Kodi in the repositories for quite a while (14.2). I have tried to upgrade manually but so far I've had no luck. Today I received a notice that a serious security flaw has been discovered and I need to upgrade to the latest version ASAP (17.3). Are there ...

Kodi wont update
Hello: I've been struggling to get Kodi to update. I'm stuck at v. 14.2. I've tried several methods to upgrade but no luck. Theres supposed to be a newer version in the Backports (v.16) but even with them enabled and updated, I still get the message that Im running the latest version. I've been pati...

Live Wallpaper program
I have written a little Python program which allows you to set up live, real-time wallpaper from webcams, Earthlights or weather maps. It should work on most desktop environments and distros. Please try it out and let me know what version of Mint you are running and how it works for you. Thanks! htt...
