Same exact problem here with Ralink RT3290. The card works fine in Windows 7 so I'm thinking its a driver issue.

Don't feel dumb, it's not necessary. If you feel it was a bug, even though you have it working now, you should report it for the benefit of the community. Otherwise, glad you got it working again.

That really depends on what you plan on doing with your computer. If you plan on running services from it that will take a lot of memory it would probably be wise to have a swap partition so that you can maximize the lifetime of your server. On the other hand, if you only plan on running some office...

I am in the exact same boat you are (scary, its almost to a T) and just last night was trying to find a torrent client that was comparable to uTorrent, since I had become so accustomed to uTorrents fantastic UI and loads of features. Update: I have researched a bit more and discovered bridge-utils. I think bridging might be where I need to research further however, as of yet I have been unable to successfully create a working bridge with my two adapters (I have gotten it set up with no errors however, I then lose my connections ...

While I'm still far from an expert with the somewhat different ways this OS gets specific tasks done (at least using a gui) I am fairly positive that if you have a working internet connection even though the net manager icon is says you don't then you will probably have no problems after a hard driv...
