Re: How to convert Debian to LMDE? [SOLVED]

Hmm, you mean that verbatim quote of pinning in the articles mentioned at start of this thread are not good enough?

Re: Are repos for LMDE and LM mixed together? [SOLVED]

I have such entry

Code: Select all

deb http://packages.linuxmint.com/ debian main upstream import
The rest are debian repos (I mean: from debian domain). I added the one above, because I converted Debian RC2 into LMDE, and such entry was shown in both HowTos I've read.

Re: Are repos for LMDE and LM mixed together?

Thank you guys for the links and explanation. No, I didn't install that package. I can understand the need of installing it, but for me (technical POV) it is bad design -- you have to know in advance which package to install to avoid installing the package you are about to install. This is some kind...

Are repos for LMDE and LM mixed together? [SOLVED]

Today I ran into a problem -- I wanted to install libgtk devel version, which required libcairo (dev) which required libfontconfig (devel) which required libfontconfig (bin) -- and this last one couldn't be resolved. I saw it on the list, so why the problem? It appears, that there were 2 sources of ...

Re: Mint Gnome menu--how to remove Favorites section? [SOLVE

Thank you very much for the link. I will try it too. But I found the solution, or rather an ugly workaround, but it works -- in order to keep Applications showing up first, one has to turn off Favorites as initial section and remove all (!) entries from Favorites. This way, every time you open Mint ...

Re: Linux Mint Gnome menu -- how to remove Favorites section

@ukbrian Thank you, but I would like to simply switch off single section, not change the look&feel of the entire menu. @Aging Thank you very much!!! It is almost a solution to the problem, however this option (as its label says) switches sections _initially_. Meaning, if user accidentally switch...

Mint Gnome menu--how to remove Favorites section? [SOLVED]

I already found the solution for removing/adding Favorites entries: http://forum.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=29974&start=0 but now I would like to solve another problem -- how to remove Favorites section entirely. Not this or that entry, but entire section. So, after removing you won'...

Re: How to install more recent packages? [kind of solved]

Ok, thank you. I hope my converted Debian looks like LMDE so I will get proper updates :-)

I am "a bit" surprised about 2008-2009 software, that's all :-)

Re: What do I need to install more recent packages?

I just found it: http://www.debian.org/distrib/packages So, it looks like konqueror from 2008 year is for real, even in most "bleeding edge" branch (it is new definition of bleeding edge then). On one hand, sure, it is good to use reliable software, but on the second hand, 3 years of devel...

Re: What do I need to install more recent packages?

Thank you. For my understanding, since I want to stick to testing branch (as LMDE), it seems my list is OK. I simply use mirror for the main Debian repo.

How to install more recent packages? [kind of solved]

Hello, I am running LMDE converted from Debian Squeeze RC2. My problem is that software which was installed during installation is pretty much up to date (i.e. I cannot complain). But no matter what I install by myself is dead old -- FireFox from LM repositories: 2009, Konqueror: 2008, F-Spot: 2009....

Re: How to convert Debian to LMDE?

Thank you very much!!! ;-) The howto you linked contains one crucial piece -- downloading the keys for each repo. I downloaded the keys, apt-get asked me if it is OK to download UNSIGNED packages, I agreed, and after that apt-get worked without any complains about missing signatures. So, I have LMDE...

How to convert Debian to LMDE? [SOLVED]

Debian Squeeze RC2. I installed Debian (because LMDE installer lacks support for LVM/dmcrypt) with hope, that after successful installation it would be possible to switch repos and convert Debian into full LMDE. Since such conversion was described: http://www.khattam.info/howto-change-debian-testing...

Re: LMDE installer can't find dm-crypt / LUKS partitions ?

Just for the record -- I tried the second way, which should be simpler, i.e. installing Debian and then converting it to LMDE. Debian with encryption and LVM: http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=46874 Conversion: http://www.khattam.info/howto-change-debian-testing-to-linux-mint-debian-...

Very impressive. Thank you very much for the sharing! Thanks to you, I will read more about LVM, maybe it is time to move to that solution as well.

Rolling release is mechanism, it does not imply the source of the data. By default LMDE uses Testing repo, but it can be switched -- to Unstable (making the system even ...

Re: How to make each package upgrade to save it first

Thank you. I think better approach would be to patch apt-get -- add an option which guarantees no package is removed during install, even if there is no space on disk (in such case download & install fails, but the old packages are intact). Since apt-get is open-source I think amount of coding i...
