Re: Steam not working in LMDE 2 BETA 2017

Try to run Steam in a terminal & see what the output is--it is more than likely that you are missing a library that will get Steam to run. Once you know what is a possible answer, search on Steam forums for it--More than likely, it has been covered many times over. I have been running Steam for seve...

Re: "Oh no! Something has gone wrong" after installing Gnome on LMDE 2

I "normally" find a video driver problem when that screen comes up--are you using an accelerated driver (nVidia or ATI?) If not--that would be the second thing I would check--right after trying a new user as per Xeno's post.......

Re: Steam LMDE

Take a look at this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2233005 (Yes I know it's Ubuntu, but it "should" still work....) I was doing this several years ago & as I recall: sudo ln -s /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa/libGL.so.1 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 Was what did the trick for me....(yes, I just checke...

Re: USB 3.0 port recognized by Linux as 2.0!

Well--It's not looking at your ports--it's looking at the hubs you have--there is a USB3 hub & 2 USB2 hubs (not sure what the 2nd hub is attached to--could be internal only)....which can all have several ports. As you are starting to see--Linux looks at the controllers (chips) attached & provides dr...

Re: Internal SD Reader Not Recognized. (It Worked w/ Window

Greetings & welcome to Linux :) Let's see--I'm betting that it will show up by listing your USB devices.....First, unplug any extra USB devices & then either right-click on the desktop & "Open Terminal" or look for the "Terminal" app in the menu. After you open a terminal, type in "lsusb" (without t...

Re: The new LMDE FAQ

Great post Killer!!! If anyone wants the "current" status of Sid/Experimental--just PM me--My main system is currently almost straight Debian Sid/Experimental (I'm doing debug for Debian) & I could share pointers on what is/is not working at the moment. If I'm not responding to a PM, my E is debianm...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Yes--about the same for me--Sid is my base, with some Mint in there & the Experimental repos to add "spice" to my life....... Runs very nice. I'm just waiting for 3.16 to shape up enough to play with. 3.14 has been very tame & stable. Just modded a Ambiance theme to my liking---the screenshot is not...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Glad to see you're still hangin' in there.... 3.12 was a good one, but already 3.14 (really 3.13.91) has "fixed" a couple of minor things---and introduced some things I need to think about (close-max-min buttons are now on the left in nautilus--boo! The light transparency is very nice--just need to ...

Re: Gnome3 for the experienced (FUN Stuff!!!)

Well--Its been a very uneventful summer...3.14 should be out in the next couple of weeks--I'm seeing the depends start to trickle into experimental. I "should" have a working 3.14 within the next few days or so... GTK3 updated last night & I now have transparency in my windows (nice to see!!!) Updat...

Re: LMDE Breakages (Tracking SID)

Ya--Not bad---I boot a SSD, but load quite a bit of stuff--so Mine is "slow" for a SSD setup.....
You are looking good for a spinning disc....

The next round of systemd updates "should" make things a bit faster.....and Gnome 14 will have integration (cross-fingers) to make the desktop faster too....

Re: LMDE Breakages (Tracking SID)

^ Thanks, bud.. Is there any foreseeable slowdown in the rapid development of Gnome? Lots of us like seeing change, but it would be nice to see a stable gnome for a while.. I'm not really in the "inner" loop, but here's the short list for 3.14- https://wiki.gnome.org/ThreePointThirteen/Featu...

What's the status of Gnome Shell in SID/Exp. right now?
Stable at 3.12.2-3 "Should" start seeing 3.14 bits in about 2 months. Memory usage is down (haven't checked the real numbers-but feels like 200mb less)
