Re: [SOLVED] Audacity problems in mint 21
I have the same issue with Flatpak version 3.2.3 (in Mint 21.1) in that Audacity appears to be installed, but it never loads. "Running ... not responding" is also what I see. I also tried the command line suggested by MikeNovember to no avail (yes, I read up on Flatpak, but the integration...

Re: Cinnamon 32bit Won't Shut Down?
It's unfortunate that this question comes up in the "newbie" section, implying something that may not be true. My attempt to shutdown -h failed. The timer ran out and nothing changed. I eventually used the power button. Now, hours later, I have booted and successfully shutdown via the menu...

Re: Cinnamon 32bit Won't Shut Down?
Also having this problem just now for the first time -- but with a 64-bit version of Cinnamon that has been functioning perfectly for months up until now. I just installed the amd64 version of WPS Office, tinkered with it a bit, and tried to shutdown. Instead, it merely logged out and returned to th...

Re: [SOLVED] icon launchers on desktop need sudo authority
In a subsequent installation I performed the same operation on the hidden gnome2 directory. That also fixed the problem.

Re: [SOLVED] icon launchers on desktop need sudo authority
I've been around the forum in search of a solution to "firefox won't launch" -- and making the error of trying "sudo firefox". The solution I found is related to "deleting the .cache directory" but doesn't go quite that far. All I did was to sudo chown -R user:user mozi...

Re: Wifi and Kwallet
Can't say how strongly I agree. It is the bane of KDE! Always getting in the way, blocking wireless configuration, confounding it. I wish it would go away forever. Sure enought, now, somebody will declare it useful. Then download it and install it and use it; but don't make us all suffer by making i...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate
Instead of clicking the Infinity thingy (Activities), move the cursor to the upper left of it -- alll the way to the corner of the screen -- and you see a radar effect that toggles between Activities and the Desktop. Thus, you can get to "Window," "Activities," and the side panel...

Re: Linux Mint 12 Release Candidate
I have installed the 64-bit RC and notice 3 things that are a little frustrating: 1. The Cantarell font that is indicated in Advanced Settings (aka Gnome Tweak Tool) as default for the Desktop and for window title bars is not installed on the system by default, so what you get is a Helvetia/Arial-lo...

Re: Linux Mint 11 RC – bug reports
I am unable to shutdown or reboot with Mint 11 RC. I have to use Alt+SysRq+REISUB. It's the same with the Unity desktop in Ubuntu 11.04, so it must be an upstream issue. I don't see a reference to this issue in the "known problems." [Edit] Found that the issue persists in Ubuntu and Mint w...

Re: separate working directories for OOo suite components?
Thanks, tenfoot, but, if I understand what your shortcut does, it's not exactly what I need. To that point there is a quickstarter feature if you install the Debian version of LO or OOo from the website -- but not if you use the Ubuntu PPA. Clicking that quickstarter tray icon will open a core LO/OO...

The forum at openoffice.org confirms my doubt:

I guess confirmed doubt is better than unconfirmed....

separate working directories for OOo suite components?
Anyone know whether it is possible to establish separate working directories for OOo Writer, OOo Calc, OOo Impress, OOo Base? I've been happy to set a path (in Tools --> Options) that has a suite-wide directory -- forcing me to drill down to subdirectories for word-processing, spreadsheets, and pres...

Re: Release: Linux Mint 10 RC
At a minimum, making the bottom border a few pixels wide (as it was previously) at least makes it easy to grab a bottom corner of a window resize.... I also "vote" for this as an issue that makes it very difficult to resize a window. It seems this issue was fixed with an update to the Min...

Re: Using Mint 7 32-bit as headless server [solved]
I pulled the video card and installed Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit, using the latest nVidia driver for the built-in graphics adapter. The configuration of Remote Desktop was successful, working without a hitch after I removed the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. So, even though it's not Mint, it is the distribut...

[Solved] Using Mint 7 32-bit as headless server
I have been using as a server an MSI K9N6GM mainboard with 1 MB RAM installed, nVidia nForce 410 mainboard chipset, nVidia GeForce MCP61 built-in graphics (which I recently have replaced with a PNY Vector GeForce 9400 GT video card with 512 MB RAM), and an AMD Sempron 2800+ processor. For about the ...

Sorry, I am at a loss. It sounds as if the problem is not with Mint but with the NAS.

Re: Sharing files on a NAS box
Nick, if you use the "Network Servers" item (select the "Network" checkbox in Preferences --> mintDesktop), can you see the server and browse its folders? I have a fresh Gloria install and have added smbfs (using Synaptic). I can browse the network folders using Nautilus. It soun...

Re: display lockup
Yes xorg.conf is less and less important Add Driver "intel" in Section "Device" - it could make a difference but probably not... So video is handled more at the kernel level now? I've added Driver "Intel" and will see how it goes. Thanks for your multiple responses and...
