Re: Just curious: TimeShift terminal command.

Take a look through Timeshift's logs in /var/log/timeshift The logs are produced hourly, but if you find the last one where a snapshot was actually taken you'll see the rsync command line. On my system [14:00:01] rsync -aii --recursive --verbose --delete --force --stats --sparse --delete-excluded -...

The command is simply /usr/bin/timeshift. You can do anything that the GUI can do with it. You'll need to run it with root authority.
Thank you.

How do I see the actual rsync command that is issued by TimeShift?

[solved] Just curious: TimeShift terminal command.

Hello: I use TimeShift to backup to an external USB hard disk, excluding /home/rob/** & /root/** and then I use Grsync to backup my /home/rob to the same hard disk. Grsync provides the rsync terminal command of: rsync -r -n -t -v --progress -s --exclude /rob/Downloads /home/rob /media/rob/BackUp...

[solved]Installing LM before installing windows

Hello:

I wish to install LM 19 32bit on a blank hard disk but would like to install windows later - is this possible?

If so, how must I partition my hard disk?

Thank you,

Re: [solved?]Boot problems with LM 20 on Dell Inspiron I5-3552

Didn't work.

I did a few 'Shutdowns" from LM 20 and all worked fine.

Did a 'Restart' from LM 20 and the errors came back.

Re: [solved?]Boot problems with LM 20 on Dell Inspiron I5-3552

Hello:

I attached an external Kingston SSD which has Windows 10 on it and booted from it twice.

Then I let the PC boot from its hard disc where LM 20 is living.

All error msgs disappeared.

Boot still took time but much less.

I don't know why this worked but there it is.

[solved?]Boot problems with LM 20 on Dell Inspiron I5-3552

Hello: I have installed LM 20 on a Friends Dell laptop but there are boot problems. The boot process throws error messages and takes about 5 minutes to reach the LM 20 sign-on prompt. Here are the error msgs from the dmesg output: [ 3.849657] scsi 0:0:0:0: Direct-Access ATA TOSHIBA MQ01ABF0 2D PQ: 0...

[solved] LM 20 boot process hangs with USB drive attached

Hello: I just upgraded to LinuxMint 20 from 19. I have a Maxtor USB backup unit attached. If I reboot while the unit is attached, the boot process hangs. If it is not attached, the boot process functions properly. With LinuxMint 19 I did not have this problem. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how...

Re: How to install FSLint on Linux Mint 20

It's to do with having Python2 dependencies which are no longer in the Ubuntu 20.04 repos. See here for a way of installing fslint and those older dependencies: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1233710/where-is-fslint-duplicate-file-finder-for-ubuntu-20-04 Hopefully they will port it to Python3 at s...

[Solved]How to install FSLint on Linux Mint 20

Hello:

I just installed Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon but FSLint is not in the software repository for it.

How can I install FSLint or is there a better way to find and delete duplicate files?

Thanks,

Re: Installed MX Linux and now cannot boot into Linux Mint

Understood, Rob, and it's okay. What you've posted is quite sufficient to address the question I had in mind. It is clear from that GParted screenshot that both MX and Mint have been installed for "legacy" BIOS-MBR (CSM) booting on the same drive. Ergo, that drive's Master Boot Record (MB...

Re: Installed MX Linux and now cannot boot into Linux Mint

Okay. Let's return, if we could please Rob, to where you posted that efibootmgr output for me. rob@mx:~ $ efibootmgr EFI variables are not supported on this system. rob@mx:~ $ That result indicates that MX Linux was installed for "legacy" BIOS-MBR (CSM) booting rather than UEFI-GPT mode b...

What do you do with that menu?
The only options are to start MX Linux or advanced options etc for MX Linux.

I am sure that you are correct that it is NOT a grub created menu.

Re: Installed MX Linux and now cannot boot into Linux Mint

But I still only get the MX menu. Any chance what you're seeing is the login screen, and not the grub menu? Sorry, I don't know the answer to that question. How can I tell? After thinking about it, I think that you may be correct - it does not look like the usual dual-boot menu that I have seen bef...

Re: Installed MX Linux and now cannot boot into Linux Mint

I found 40_custom but do not know how to write the required entry. I'd be very happy to do that for you Rob and I will. But I'd first like to be just a little more certain about exactly where things are at. You say: It sees it, right? Found Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia (19.3) on /dev/sda5 It sure looks l...

Re: Installed MX Linux and now cannot boot into Linux Mint

If not, you can add it manually in /etc/grub.d/40_custom and run sudo update_grub again. Say if you want more help on doing the latter.

Any help would be appreciated.
