Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

I'd make a separate thread about that issue. Something is broken is probably nothing to do with Libreoffice.

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

If you search for libreoffice in Synaptic you probably see that the currently installed one is called libreoffice4.4 ? i.e. package manager treats it as a different program to libreoffice . Remove it and all of the related libreoffice packages in case of possible conflicts. Then: sudo apt-get instal...

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

Didn't notice first but the problem is... Installed: (none) Candidate: 1:5.0.1~rc2-0ubuntu1~trusty1 You don't have it installed right now so of course you won't get any updates to it either. Install it. You said you have 4.x installed? From the website and .debs? Remember the extra gtk packages (oth...

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

Sure that you refreshed (Refresh in Update Manager or just apt-get update)?

Re: [SOLVED] PPA-Purge wants to purge half my system...

Had the same issue (17.2). Ended up downgrading most of the packages in Synaptic first (Origin > edgers ppa) to avoid excessive copy-pasting. I downgraded the packages mostly one by one (Ctrl+E) to the oldest possible Trusty version and then locking the version afterwards. If there was a dep warning...

Ranthe wrote:What I meant was uninstall the PPA version using apt-get remove and keep the DEB version, and use GDebi Package Installer to uninstall the DEB version and keep the PPA version. Is this the right way around?
Somehow "keep" became "remove", so I just read it wrong. :D

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

I think two LO 5.0s on the same machine is probably overkill  so now I need to decide which one to get rid of. I figure if I want the DEB version I do a sudo apt-get remove libreoffice , and if I want to keep the PPA version I use GDebi Package Installer on each unpacked DEB file to uninst...

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

Hello, after updating as described, adding in /etc/apt/preferences.d/libreoffice-libreoffice-5-0.pref Package: * Pin: release o=LP-PPA-libreoffice-libreoffice-5-0 Pin-Priority: 701 my Libreoffice looks "old", I think I'm missing some additional drivers... Any suggestion to fix it? https://www.dropb...

Re: How to fix LibreOffice PPA not installing newer versions

For some reason, I had to modify it slightly to get it to work: Pin: release o=LP-PPA-libreoffice-libreoffice-4-4 That's because you don't have the main PPA mentioned in OP (ppa:libreoffice/ppa) but the 4.4 stable PPA. Initially after the release the 5.0 stable PPA wasn't up (ppa:libreoffice/libreo...

Code: Select all

apt-cache policy libreoffice
if you don't believe it can't be coming from the official repos.

Re: [Question] How to setup bulk rename in NEMO?

Thank you mattst. Other than missing F2 press, this is pretty much ideal and replicates old nautilus-renamer functionality. Thunar's renamer is also pretty similar to that in simplicity. Nemo team should just fork the Thunar code and make it a built in feature. :P I'd like them to fork the "thunar ...

Dead link (applet became unmaintained/uncompatible?). What was that called and might it still work with some hacking?

Re: Screen Tear - Panel Auto Hide

I take the liberty of resurrecting this thread in order to post a solution (although one that I presume will work only on systems with Intel graphics). sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-intel && sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel Then reboot. This worked for me - no more tearing/fli...

It is an issue with the Compiz' Static Application Switcher. Was fixed in compiz - 1:0.9.4+bzr20110606-0ubuntu1~natty1. Bug report here, including an easy way to reproduce it: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/789580

Re: anyone had any joy with Eurosport Player - needs Silverl

This thread came up in Google search, so I'll bump this now that I did try Eurosport Player with Moonlight (64-bit, version dated Apr 12, 2011 i.e. at the moment the latest). Using FF 4.0.1 64-bit. The Player works, I can see videos and most features seem to be working, but the streams are unwatchab...

Backing up settings and software

I'm going to do a fresh install (10 Main) on a completely new hardware and I want to retain all the current programs and the user specific settings. What else should I backup besides /home and "the software selection" (in mintBackup)? ^ i.e. what other paths programs usually use to save settings? Lo...
