Re: LMDE no speaker sound - headphones OK
Oddly enough, the newest update pack along with updating the kernel to 3.2.0-4 magically did the trick. Thanks for all of your help!

Re: LMDE no speaker sound - headphones OK
Well rats. Some good pointers but still no dice. Looking in alsamixer, I can't help believe I still have a setting wrong. Can anyone speak to the menu options I find in alsamixer > F2 (System Info) > /proc/asound/devices. I see a collection of devices with codes listed below. Can anyone provide any ...

Re: LMDE no speaker sound - headphones OK
Thanks, but gnome-alsa mixer is not installed. I am assuming that is because this is the KDE version of LMDE.

[SOLVED] LMDE no speaker sound - headphones OK
Hi all, I have have been wrestling with the sound on my HP DV7 notebook and tried every trick I could find on google to fix my "no sound on speakers" issue. Headphones work fine. I am not sure if I am just missing something (very possible) or if I have found a bug that should be reported. ...

[Solved]Battery Life Indicator
This is a very minor problem, but reviewing for a solution so the right people can look at a fix if this happens to be a bug... I have searched the forums and not found any reference to this specific issue. My battery life indicator works perfectly as long as it is plugged in/unplugged while the com...

Re: Howto exit xWindows to run only terminal
Hm. Sounds hard on the system if I can figure that out. I think my solution may be more GRUB2 related since the more typical solutions have not worked. I will look into the "kill x" option when all else fails, or maybe just stick with alt>cntrl>F1... Thanks for the pointer.

Re: Howto exit xWindows to run only terminal
This has become quite a conundrum... Any Mint GURUs out there that can help me figure out what I am missing? It must be a simple fix somehow but it has stumped me and the GURUs on LinuxForums.org. Hoping for some help. See the link in my initial post. Thanks in advance.

[Solved]Howto exit xWindows to run only terminal
Seems like a simple quest. I run Mint Julia 10.10 64 bit Gnome and want to exit xWindows and run only terminal without using cntrl>alt>F1. Any help on how to do that? I have been through a variety of gyrations to try to figure this out on a different forum, but I think I need a "Mint specialist...

[Solved] Fuzzy Clock
I have not seen any posts regarding this clock since 2007, but it is still incredibly cool and I would love to be able to install it in Mint. Has anyone figured out how to install it in a non-KDE environment?

Re: pae kernel will not suspend correctly
If the computer is set to suspend to disk (hibernate) you need a larger swap partition. It must be a little larger than your amount of RAM. Also, check your log files for errors: > Menu > Administration > Log-File Viewer and in the left pane select pm-suspend.log This file is crazy long and not sur...

Is there a way to install 64 bit without having to re-download all my other downloaded packages and software, or do I literally start from scratch?monkeyboy wrote:No really, a 64 bit reinstall is fairly quick.

Re: pae kernel will not suspend correctly
My understanding is that assuming you have plenty of physical RAM, the system primarily uses the swap partition for hibernation, not for suspend. With the generic kernel I was able to suspend fine but not hibernate as I learned the swap needs to be larger than the physical RAM so it can hold all the...

[Solved] pae kernel will not suspend correctly
I am running 32 bit Julia on a HP Pavilion dv7... notebook dual booted. It has 4GiB physical RAM plus 2 swap. I recently changed to the pae kernel (2.6.35-24-generic-pae) which now recognizes all of my memory but now will not suspend correctly. It seems to "sleep" most processes, but never...

Re: Not recognizing all memory
The instructions in the attached link worked like a charm. 64 bit would probably be a good option for me, but don't want to have to re-install from scratch now. I thought the memory limit for 32 bit was 4 GiB. No worries. Loving Mint instead of running Win7!

Re: Not recognizing all memory
I checked using uname -r and confirmed I am not using pae kernel and that does appear to be my problem. Having difficulty finding instructions on how to install and also finding discussion that I may have to re-install with every kernel update?
