Re: Linux Mint 18.1+Nemo = VERY high CPU usage (abnormal)

I'm currently away from my Mint 18.1 laptop at the moment... like, out of town. But when I get back, I'll be able to test that command out. In the mean time, that 13-14% figure I gave for my processor's idle..... well, I think it's really because I also happened to have Firefox running in the backgr...

Linux Mint 18.1+Nemo = VERY high CPU usage (abnormal)

Hello, the current combination of Linux Mint 18.1 and Nemo results in VERY high CPU usage on my laptop (please see my signature below for the exact specs). This was not the case when I was running 18.0 or 17.3. Right now, my kernel is 4.4.0-72-generic. Please note that I have the System Monitor wind...

VLC:streaming MP3s over SMB+uPnP using Mint 17.3 & Mint 18

My setup: ⋅ Router: Netgear WNDR3700 w/ ReadyShare (onboard USB port; the thing that hosts my DLNA device/server) ⋅ DLNA device/server: 16GB USB 2.0 flash drive (contains my entire MP3 library of Carpenters songs...) ⋅ PC1: Desktop w/ Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64-bit + VLC 2.1...

VLC playback messed up/garbled (Lagarith-encoded AVI)...?

Anyone who knows me on YouTube (probably very, very few of you, if any at all) would know that I don't use FRAPS to record/encode my gameplay videos. Instead, I've opted to use Taksi (for Windows; http://sourceforge.net/projects/taksi/?source=navbar ) as my screen/game recorder...... and the Lagarit...

CPU usage spiking when holding down keys???

I don't know if this is normal behavior, but when I hold down any key.... ANY key on the keyboard, I notice that my CPU usage spikes to 95% or more (i'm looking at it through a simple CPU guage on my Conky setup). And sometimes as a side-effect, when I use the keyboard arrow keys to control my scrol...

Re: Will mint xcfe appear and work the same in v.17?

Still on-topic, but I just want to say that I'm hoping that, with the upcoming LTS base, support for my older hardware (detailed in my signature below), will still be there. Like, I mean.... if it works just fine in LM13 xfce, I hope it continues onto LM17 xfce (it didn't do so well in LM14 through ...

Re: Problems with the Intallation of Linux13Xfce

I've never ran into this problem myself... but then again, I've only ever had to re-install Mint 13 XFCE after failing with Mint 14 through 16. Anyway, this is just an idea you could try out... : Are you able to open up a Terminal window after booting from the burned DVD or USB? You could possibly t...

Re: mint 16 xfce can't go back to windows 7 & 8

You say you're using a Lenovo E330... I don't know anything about how Lenovo likes to allow their users to restore/recover/reinstall Windows, but if your E330 came with some sort of OEM DVD version of Windows (most notebook/laptop manufacturers do), one that is specifically meant for your laptop... ...

Re: White dropshadows around windows? Cinnamon or Intel bug

Alright, with the new Cinnamon 2.0 backported to Linux Mint 13 (Maya), I decided to try it out. Please note, however, that I have since WIPED Linux Mint 15 off of my hard drive and I am currently working off of Linux Mint 13 with all of the latest available updates and upgrades applied (as of 17-Dec...

Qamra = "moon" in Greek Or how about a derivative... "Qamara" = which supposedly also means "moon", but in Arabic... i'm not Arabic (nor Greek for that matter), but I was looking through a site that has a list of names for baby girls and this one came up and it sounded ...

Re: Xfce question regarding maximizing windows

Somebody started a thread about this way back in 2012, but I believe the solution provided at the bottom of that thread might still work for Mint 15 XFCE... http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=529725#p529725 Basically, Alt+Left-Clicking an open window should let you drag it anywhere else ont...

Now that you mention it, I'm kind of surprised that Linux Mint doesn't provide a "mini", netboot-able ISO, like what Ubuntu and Debian provide.

Re: Super Key open whisker menu ?

I know I said this before about the "Applications Menu" plugin.... but it'd be great if either the next version of Whisker Menu or XFCE itself would let users bind stuff to the RELEASE (or letting-go) of a pressed super key. This has the added advantage of avoiding an unintentional pop-up ...

Qadeera/Qadira/Quadira
Quadra (though... unlikely to happen if Apple would have anything to say about it. But it's cool though, because it's just two syllables)
Quintara (the name of a street in San Francisco; follow it West-ward and you'll hit the Pacific Ocean!)

Re: White dropshadows around windows? Cinnamon or Intel bug

Hello again . . . I wish there was a way to help you, but maybe the only way is to say that I have left Cinnamon to those who don't mind the glitches and I have moved to XFCE 64 bit . . . and things have been much, much better . . . not entirely problem free, but, workable . . . I added the cairo-d...

Re: pimping xfce 15

XFCE can easily be set to change the desktop background randomly, chosen from a list that you specify, every n minutes. Variety may (IDK) have additional features, but if not, that's one less thing running in the background, lol. Regards, MDM You are of course right :D I've change the above to show...

I'm not using Mint 15 (currently)... I reverted back to Mint 13 XFCE. But out of curiosity, did you see this type of problem in previous versions of Linux Mint XFCE? Also, you might consider posting the specifics of your hardware configuration and let people know if you're using an xorg.conf file or...

Re: Would you still use Linux without compiz eyecandy?

Back to the original post, I would respond with: "preferably no." And here's why... more precisely, I WANT to have the functionality of the Compiz plugins that I care about, Ring Switcher (think of Windows Vista's Aero Flip 3d, but windows revolve in a 3d taurus-like path) and Scale (which...
