Re: Steam + multiple partitions = game update PITA!

Hi folks, Thanks for the suggestion Rene, no reply is definitely worse so thanks for your suggestion! It made me decide to 'bite the bullet' and simply booted up a Gparted LiveCD and move 500MB from /home to /. This has the added bonus of stopping Mint from nagging/reminding me I have less than 1GB ...

[SOLVED] Steam + multiple partitions = game update PITA!

Hi folks, I have home and root on separate partitions. Steams (unused) base Library (which it won't let me remove) is on home and I have second (used) Steam library on a separate HDD. My free disk space is as follows: Root partition: 656MB Home partition: 1.9GB Library HDD: 2GB Steam is telling me i...

Re: Help with NTFS mount in fstab

Thanks folks. The mount -a command was a great debugger as it immediately pointed out the problem - it is an invalid Locale. I tried a number of different permutations of GB, UK, underscores and dashes but it didn't like any of them (even the one taken from MSDN). Never mind, no great impact in drop...

Help with NTFS mount in fstab

Hi folks, Could someone with more knowledge than me possibly check my fstab command as I'm getting an error that I have to 'skip' on bootup. I dual boot with Win7 for games and have a separate SSD formatted as NTFS for my Steam Library. I would like to use Steam on Linux too now and would prefer not...

Re: Steam: Could not connect to Steam network.

Awesome, thank you! I was purging but not manually removing the Steam directory with:

Code: Select all

rm -rf ~/.local/share/Steam

Doing that and reinstalling did the trick!

Re: Neither GRUB nor BIOS displayed after Mint install

I'm giving this a bump in the hope that someone can help as I'm still having this issue but working around it by navigating through GRUB 'blind'. It would be really good to be able to see GRUB and BIOS on the screen though..

[SOLVED] Steam: Could not connect to Steam network.

Hi all, I've had this rather fundamental problem with Steam for a while now, a few weeks or so I guess: Steam used to work just fine, no issues at all. Out of the blue, I go to log in one day (I don't use it that much) and I after the pop-up saying 'Connecting Steam account: xxxxx' I simply get anot...

Re: Neither GRUB nor BIOS displayed after Mint install

So I reset CMOS by removing the battery for 30-45 mins or so. This resulted in a perpetual blank screen when I replaced everything and powered on so I had to go and source another screen to find out what was happening. Plugging this in results in me immediately seeing all the POST messages, includin...

There is an 'Edit' button next to each of your posts - you can use that to edit the subject line to add [SOLVED] to the beginning.

Re: Hdmi no video or sound.

I have tried configuring my Nvidia-Xserver settings, but its giving me a driver error. I'm quite a n00b myself but that doesn't sound good. If you're getting a genuine 'driver error' message (rather than some kind of permissions message) I'd look into re-installing the drivers. It may or may not so...

Re: Neither GRUB nor BIOS displayed after Mint install

OK, so I'm typing this from Mint as I worked out that the default selection in GRUB is at the end of the list rather than the top so by "blindly" pressing up four times (rather than going down as I was trying initially) means I can manually make the selection! :) So GRUB is definitely ther...

Re: Neither GRUB nor BIOS displayed after Mint install

Thanks for the thought SRS. I don't think I'm able to use Boot Info Script since I manually edited grub to select Win7 as default and I can only get back into Mint by doing the same in reverse - but to edit grub and update I'd need to be in Mint... so a catch 22! I don't think I can even do this via...

Re: Mint 14 on old laptop?

It looks from that list as though the laptop will allow you to boot from the optical drive. I know my old (~2006) Sony Vaio does. What it does not have the option to do though is boot from USB - which it seems yours doesn't either.

Neither GRUB nor BIOS displayed after Mint install

Hi all, I have what I think is a very strange occurance following install of Mint 14 Cinnamon 64-bit from a USB stick. I built a new PC based around a Shuttle SZ77R5 and an EVGA GTX670 FTW graphics card. I want to dual boot so that I can run games in MS Windows so I first installed Win 7 from DVD. A...

Re: Image but no sound when connecting to television by HDMI

I assume it works OK in Win7 but not Linux? A simple possibility to start with: have you had a look at the volume settings for HDMI, it could be as simple as it's muted or turned right down. https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Advanced_Linux_Sound_Architecture#HDMI_Output_Does_Not_Work might help y...
