Re: Slow boot after upgrade to Mint 21.
Only after testing and discovery of my slow boot issue (seemingly following mint 21 upgrade here) to be caused by the Proton VPN KILLSWITCH for me; did I then realize the error code in my dmesg is another issue. The point is; anyone searching for a slow boot solution can also test any kind of VPN ki...

Re: Slow boot after upgrade to Mint 21.
Wait a minute. My install is taking a slow 3m; which used to be nearly instant up and down and seems to be slowing at the DM loading. Kernel 5.19 didn't fix it and nor has two lower kernel upgrades that came thorough over these last WEEKS. It's getting ridiculous as I usually get people into Linuxmi...

Re: PC just randomly stops accepting input
Backup anything critical; perhaps onto a USB flash drive or what have you. Vacuum it out if needed. Use a small brush. Like clean, dry makeup brush or one that will fit around fan blades gently. Turn it all the way off; but leave it plugged in for the ground. Ground yourself and remover the cover; b...

Re: Radeon Xpress 200 - No 3D?
While this GPU is considered very weak by gamers on the edge, still it does do 3D with Linux! glxgears -info 300 frames in 5.0 seconds = 59.986 FPS There are some older games you can play with it. Still; it's better to get an add on card if you have a slot for it(desktop). Look for a free discarded ...

Re: Graphics drivers?
Test all hardware devices first and backup your data! Clean mouse? Check all fans. :) You could note some hardware sensor applets added to your panel. Meaning monitor memory usage, CPU/GPU temp and speed (vacuum out your computer), hard drive temp and also Internet speeds. Also CPU thermal paste may...

Re: HP BIOS flash WITHOUT Windows. Non-EFI SOLVED
You tell me why HP forums can't still offer and say...(for like models, no matter age) dear Linux users.... Extract the right executable(that looks Windows only) and burn the iso file to CD/DVD! AND it's ALL hidden in that iso in the exe, for a BIOS flash with no windows required. Incompetence? And ...

HP BIOS flash WITHOUT Windows. Non-EFI SOLVED
Mine is an HP Pavilion a1477c desktop. 2006. If you have an HP or Compaq around that time and the BIOS update/upgrade file is a windows only .exe with winflash Windows only flasher inside it, then I have a real Linux only solution for you. (Not the web list of Linux methods; that does not work in th...

Re: Huion H610 pen tablet issues
If anyone finds this I just got a Monoprice, AKA Huion 610 (H610) graphics drawing tablet and NOT the pro version. I'm on Debian stable currently 3.16 kernel. Not the same; but should be the same install experience for Mint or debian based. Now-a-days... It(driver) just works. However; find "In...

Re: [SOLVED] Minitube crashing again
Solved (to build your own) for Debian (Sqeeze tested); currently "stable", and so I presume LMDE: The sId minitube v1.7 is not currently working; no matter. v1. 9 from the Debian forums: A new version of Minitube1.9 is available and it works in stable!: To get it up and running directly fr...

Re: Linux Mint 12, no panels, just desktop with 2 icons
Trust me, Gnome 3 shell didn't like my Geforce card, for some unknown reason. This is exactly why, gnome 2 should still be available (Mate proves that), while Gnome 3 and its shell is being stabilized, and not you for some, but mostly everyone, with more than sufficient hardware. It's history now, a...

Re: Gnome 3 Shell dead on login
UPDATE: The point is, how many people are we losing, to these bugs? There is no sane, default entry point (distro), for new users. How many run back to Windows? In my going back to Debian Stable (since I want maximum stability, on my main production system, and with the fine, select back-ports, tha...

Re: Gnome 3 Shell dead on login
I consider gnome3 shell, a serious bug. One that took away from the open software experience, as a whole. Lightdm even gave out on me, and I having to use KDM to get to my Mate desktop. I only left the stability of the Debian Stable (Gnome 2 still intact!) + select back-port (and exoodle , and smxi ...

Re: upgrade to 12-Lisa is downgrade
A. His point is not lost on me. Gnome 2 was a work in progress also, just not like, these. B. That fact that Gnome 2 has stopped, this way, is the problem. When you say Mate is a work in progress, I take that to indicate it's new forked nature, and the need to work out bugs. Mate seems to have less ...

Re: Gnome 3 Shell dead on login
I managed a way to run the gnome-tweak-tool, in the largely unresponsive (from the start of it) gnome shell. It was extremely tricky. Note: If you can't tell, by the pointer; that the invisible Terminal is loaded, restart the session. 1. Blindly, I did a Ctrl-Alt-T (terminal), and blindly typed.... ...
