Re: Installing other window managers.
That's not much use when you're trying to get around the damage inflicted on GTK+ by the GNOME Project.

Making ALL applications use light theme
I just did a fresh reinstall on my laptop system, (Cinnamon Desktop 5.8.4), but even though I have set the Theme as "light" in the simplified theme settings, with Mint-X-Brown for Applications, Icons and Desktop under the Advanced settings, a variety of applications still insist on ignorin...

Re: Installing other window managers.
I would really like to try different Window Managers with Cinnamon Desktop. Muffin suffers from being based on a GTK that has been wilfully broken by GNOME. So I'd like to try some non-GTK alternatives (or maybe port Muffin over to CTK) (for that matter, I've just started trying NsCDE, https://githu...

Re: Theme change possible for LM 21 (and beyond)?
Well, seeing as there will never be proper theme support in later Cinnamon versions, which version of Cinnamon would I need to revert to in order to get Window Border theming back? That way I can revert back to that version and then pin all the appropriate packages to never be updated.

Re: titlebar customization on lm21 cinnamon ?
Well, it's a start towards un-breaking GTK. But the CSD windows won't have proper titlebars showing. And the utility I USED to use to fix those (gtk-nocsd) immediately crashes when I try to load it. The GNOME folks probably put in a check to crash it if you try to use it. At this point I've given up...

Re: Topics will be closed after 6 months
But sometimes that older topic *IS* relevant to the discussion at hand. And merely locking out the thread means someone has to copy over all that information all over again just to restart it. I would suggest when a thread gets locked, the thread should then get a button to "start new thread wi...

Re: titlebar customization on lm21 cinnamon ?
There was already a discussion about this there: https://github.com/SebastJava/mint-yz-theme/discussions/51 ... So, to sum up, it should be possible to do whatever you want, but it is not easy, not quick. The problem there is how do you even determine what bit of the XML created the layout of the t...

Re: titlebar customization on lm21 cinnamon ?
That's only icons. What do you do to put texture, color shading, etc back on the tittlebar? Or to force the system to USE titlebars, if there is sufficient GNOME-infected GTK code to break that? I had been using GTK-nocsd, but it seems that is breaking other applications now, or at least breaks itse...

Re: Any theme with prominent active window titlebar?
What we need is a way to FORCE the GTK system to start showing proper TITLEbars again. The stupid and broken GNOME thing of "headerbars" with all those other icons and such smushed in with them is a bad idea, which wouldn't be so bad if it were merely restricted to GNOME itself where I wou...

Re: Simple theme extension for coloured active window
A very nice fallback option, it at least makes my system semi-usable again. But because the *geniuses* at the GNOME project broke GTK3/4, if you open up one of *their* applications it also sets the header-bar to the same color. Which looks kind of ugly (like most of GNOME). Ultimately we need to fin...

Re: titlebar customization on lm21 cinnamon ?
In jelabarre59's example, is it possible to copy the css from the Esco metacity theme, and paste it into an existing theme's gtk.css, making it auto-generate the Esco theme without metacity? Well no, because the Metacity theming is in XML format. It has to get converted to the CSS codes for GTK, an...

Re: titlebar customization on lm21 cinnamon ?
The problem is, all the theme designers seem to have bought into GNOME's twisted idea that there should be NO textures and colors in their themes. And also have the delusion that ALL your windows, whether active or inactive/background, should have the EXACT same coloring/shading. Makes me wonder if ...

Re: Mint 20.1 x64 Cinnamon Window borders with focus highlight
My observation is the theme developers are far too focused on being "Kewl" and "Leet", and put no thought into actual usability . Used to be you could readily find borders that would, shockingly, have actual colors to them, AND would dim out the background windows. Borders that h...

But even though there is a little hack to move the window, it seems like there's a lot of wasted space on the installer window.

Mint 20 upgrade breaks keyboard/mouse
OK, so I thought this was just a quirk on my desktop machine. But now it's happened on yet ANOTHER machine, exact same problem. I upgraded two machines from Mint 19.3 to 20.0. Both are running Cinnamon desktop, LightDM logins. On both machines, even when having to go through the whole process of man...

Can't upgrade to Mint20 without downgrading everything
I seem to recall in earlier versions of Mint, it didn't care if I had brought in newer versions of packages than were on the Ubuntu/Mint sites, as it would simply upgrade to the newest version in the main repos if appropriate. It also used to be able to temporarily disable repos it didn't want to wo...

Re: notifications log or way to see past notifications?
Definitely need a notifications history/log. I get notices forwarded from KDE Connect and they disappear before I can even get a chance to look at them. I'm talking 3-4 seconds, and they're gone. Not much use to have notifications if you aren't sitting right on top of the keyboard/mouse in order to...

.deb cache directory moved?
Up until just recently, when I was updating my systems at home, I would rsync the .deb files from that update over to another machine so I could save on bandwidth (both on my end *and* the repositories). But now it seems either the /var/cache/apt/archives directory has been moved, or the system is d...

Re: Can't burn a cd
People still burn CD's? Audio CD's? (!) Color me surprised. I don't think I've burnt (or listened to) an audio CD in over 15 years. Yes, Audio CDs for those vehicles or other setups that can't play MP3s. Since most of the Japanese bands I'd want to buy albums of don't have American distribution dea...
