Upgraded to Linux Mint Mate 18.3 -- clock disappeared

I've been happily running Linux Mint Mate 18.0 on my laptop for a while now, but i wanted to see if I upgraded it to 18.3 whether it would run WriterSolo (it won't). But that's not my main problem. The upgrade from 18.0 to 18.3 seemed to go well, except my clock and weather applets disappeared from ...

Jstar (JOE) and Flowing Text

The JOE (Joe's Own Editor) variant, Jstar, is my editor (and word processor) of choice. But it has one big issue when used in conjunction with other applications (like LibreOffice Write or as a Fountain syntax editor) — word wrapped text doesn't "flow" into the application. Every word wrapped line e...

Screenplay Software for Linux

A few years ago the choices for writing screenplays in Linux were pretty sparse. You had Celtx Online (and, for a short while, there was an offline version for Ubuntu only) and macros in OpenOffice (and later, LibreOffice). That was about it. Then came Trelby (still very capable even though it's "lo...

Re: Trelby Installation - python-wxgtk2.8 & Mint 18.1 Cinnamon

I haven't been here in a while. If you're still reading this forum (or for others) the wxgtk2.8 issue has been worked around and there is a downloadable file available, called trelby 2.3-all.deb. It's available for download on Trelby's Google group site. https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/trelb...

Re: Firefox 50.0

I am one of those who switched to the ubuntu version of firefox at version 49 (late sept 2016 as suggested by Karlchen). This was due to a problem with the 32 bit versions of linux Mint 17. Never switched back to the minty version, even after the problem was fixed. Well, I got the firefox 50 versio...

Re: Good Video Card for Optiplex 790 (Dell)

But does anyone know if a Radeon 6450 would work "out of box" on this computer using LM 18? Yes, it will. And in the hardware sense, and although I expect this is not a coincidence, its listed as one of two available optional graphics cards in the technical guidebook: http://www.dell.com/downloads/...

Re: Good Video Card for Optiplex 790 (Dell)

With a Nvidia card you can basically not go wrong. However you need to check which connecting there is available (PCI/PCI-e) and if you have enough space in the case to add a graphic card. I booted Linux Mint 18 on my computer (via thumb drive) and it supported my old ATI HD2400 Pro fine for all I ...

Good Video Card for Optiplex 790 (Dell)

My Dad bought a "new" computer (Dell Optiplex 790) and installed Linux Mint 18 Mate on it. The onboard Intel video card is not quite hacking it and so he's looking at buying a new video card -- just to make video smoother, he doesn't play games that require high-end video performance. It looks like ...

Re: Firefox 49.0+linuxmint1+rosa crashes

I wonder if this has been fixed? Just installed some updates on my LM17.3 KDE 32-bit machine & all of the aforementioned sites appear to work fine, no crashes or hangs. I checked and mine's Firefox 49.0+linuxmint1+rosa . Not fixed on my computer. You can check it really quickly -- just go to eBay a...

If the next Firefox update doesn't fix the problem I'll probably go that route. For now, however, I would rather stick with the standard setup.

Re: Weather Applet (Weather Report 1.8.1) Dead?

What I want to know is if I can just delete them, bring back the original ones that are now .bk files back. But they will be pre-update files and I don't know if that would cause some major issue. I think I will do what the previous guy said and reinstall the files in Synaptic. Yes, you should be a...

I currently have only one 64-bit install, but it worked fine. Also, one 32-bit Mate 13 install worked fine. So it may be specifically a 17.x, 32-bit issue.

Also http://www.ebay.co.uk which crashes when entering anything into the search box. Exactly the same issue I'm having (except with the U.S. eBay site). I can go to eBay just fine and move around anywhere on the site -- UNTIL I click into the search bar, then Firefox completely crashes. This happen...

Re: Weather Applet (Weather Report 1.8.1) Dead?

For me, it's stuck on Updating... You might want to go to Synaptic, right-click on to the two libmateweather files and do a "reinstall." (Don't do an uninstall, that's how I lost my whole panel.) Which version of Linux Mint are you using? Did you let libgweather update when you had that choice? (I'...

Or you can right click the panel and choose add to panel find you weather there also. I like the clock one. The problem is Weather Report is no longer showing up in the "Add to Panel" list. What? Maybe in LM 18, because it's still there in 17.3. It turned out to be an issue with uninstalling libmat...
