Re: mate-screenshot -a don't work properly with keyboard shortcut

It seems to be a timing issue. That's cool you figured it out. Am curious since we both find it "strange", could it be caused by wireless keyboard slight delay? I do use wireless myself. And THANKS for the solution. Only change I made was to put the script in /home/USER/bin. ( so shortened the comm...

Re: A question about the basic of linux mint live session

Couldn’t we agree on “YMMV”? No, because it is not about varying mileage, there is no grey area. It was said that you can not install packages in a live environment, (that is misinformation that should not be spread), when if fact you can. Not arguable, Period. Your continuing argument; “Some appli...

Re: A question about the basic of linux mint live session

-- yeah..sorry but larry and the other guy are correct. The live environment is not meant for installing anything., Sorry, but got to call BS on this one. You CAN install software in a live environment, and in some cases is the only way a user has to fix a broken system. One example; Boot-Repair ht...

Re: mate-screenshot -a don't work properly with keyboard shortcut

I see. Strange, as it works reliable from the terminal, although it does return this message; Gtk-Message: 19:34:04.259: GtkDialog mapped without a transient parent. This is discouraged. Maybe not the best solution, but you could change the command to -i, that only adds one click to the operation. A...

Re: A question about the basic of linux mint live session

I don't believe you can install software on the Linux Mint Live USB. It is designed to test if the operating system will work with your hardware and to let you get familiar with the operating system. I think larry you are right THANKS FOR THE ANSWER AND HELP ME TO SOLVE THIS EROORS No he's not righ...

Re: A question about the basic of linux mint live session

I don't believe you can install software on the Linux Mint Live USB. Sure you can, but there are limits. Say you burn your ISO on a 4GB stick, the OS (compressed) takes some room (2+GB), so there is only so much room left. Even on a bigger stick (>4GB) you'll "probably" still have size limits with ...

Re: Programs are installed but not shown anywhere

most of the time programs do get automatically added to the menu, but "sometimes" you do have to log out/back in.

Your choice of course, but realplayer 11.* looks VERY old. Anyway does it show up in /usr/share/applications ? You can copy it to desktop from there, or launch it.

Re: Random thoughts on distro hopping

distro hopping, or experimenting, and learning even a little is a good thing. IF I hadn't given Ubuntu, then a year later Mint a try, I might still be stuck in a stupid window somewhere. I've tried a few linuxes, I have an Arch VM. Frankly I could, and happily use a number of them. Debian, just need...

Or it could be a warm day in the tropics or the sun could shine tomorrow. "Could"? "Could"?? "Could"???
HAHA,

I have to find where I was every time and it takes me forever. (cuz I'm new at all this)
A tip that "may" help quickly find stuff is to use the all applications, and the "all" category, then scroll through(down) the long list, yes a long list, but it's alphabetical.

Re: Nothing happens after closing laptop lid when I use extra monitor.

My mouse can go further than a screen border and opened windows stay in laptop screen. Mate/Mint doesn't detect that there is only one monitor after closing the lid. Is there solution for that? Is it a bug of feature ;) ? Not sure what solution your looking for, but if you want your opened windows ...

would I need to download and put Gparted on the USB? Or is Gparted built-in to Mint?
Yes, Gparted will be included on a live linux installer.

Re: How to put a "sticky note" on my desktop?

Are you sure, have you tried clicking on "Note"? First, THANKS ! I thought I was sure, I didn't even know you could click on "Note", anyway with some "clicking" (back, and forth) I see I can change the order to alphabetical...cool. Thanks again, now I have no reason to change note applications. Rick

Re: How to Defend my Computer from Windows?

So you are going to get Windows updates rammed down your throat, whether you like it or not. I was informed of this by one of the IT gurus at work. No one is upset, but some people just think they are IT gurus. You can see my screen shot above ? Nearly 10 months have gone by since any update check,...

Sure,
copied, transferred, backed up etc.
Gnotes are stored in ~/.local/share/gnote

I haven't used sticky, but I'm sure they are stored similarly, IE somewhere in /home.
