Re: installing youtube-dl problem

Pretty sure that's the one you get if you don't define the format; youtube-dl URL Best music format is usually #251 (.webm). Actually I got more than a few that are .mkv format (using no options), and while they seem to work with the players I have (VLC, SMPlayer etc.), I just thought that mp4 woul...

Re: installing youtube-dl problem

Youtube-dl doesn't have a gui; it's run from the terminal. Actually Schultz there is a gui for youtube-dl it's youtube-dlg, but the program so easy to use there is no need of it. Basically @loch1957 for a "standard" mp4 download, go to the video you want to download, and copy the url open terminal,...

Re: Caja same sorting as Windows - special character before letteres.

its working in Dos\Windows etc.. but Linux its ignoring and sort.. !Something like Something. Its possible to change it somewhere? Linux is not Windows, and really best to stop making comparisons straight away. It's futile, and serves no point. Special characters with the exception(s) of ".-_" (dot...

Re: How do you remember bits of sudo code?

True, I can't argue about the size of the space used...less than one small picture.

I guess it just bugs me that erasedups don't work as it should. And they are not hard to remove manually either.

Re: How do you remember bits of sudo code?

Another trick which will allow you to type the start of a partially remembered command in the terminal and then use the up/down arrows to find the last time you used it is to create a file called ~/.inputrc and add the content....snip That is a slick bit of code for sure @smurphos. Having a look at...

Re: clean simple linux mint installation / partitions

I know very little of UEFI as my hardware is old....haven't had to deal with it yet. I suspect with the newness of you cpu, "maybe" you are using UEFI, but not necessary...I would think you would know / remember that from your install, anyway. Post the output of sudo fdisk -l Then at least you, and ...

Re: Intermittent problem - can't rename files in Caja

I think I found a way to consistently reproduce this bug: Indeed, I think you have. I did exactly as you said, and none of the nine (9) files are renameable. Now, whether or not anyone would care enough to look at a fix is the question, as you have already seen all that is needed for a fix is to in...

Me neither. I tried (also via youtube-dl download) and renamed it easily (F2) as can be seen in the title bar of smplayer (erased "Official Video" part).
Like the title of the post says it's intermittent, I downloaded the same file myself, and renamed it "this time"

everything was 'frozen' ..SNIP.. Does that on occasion happen or is it something that rarely happens or shouldn't happen at all?
A Frozen Linux Mint is indeed rare for me anyway. In about 10 years since version 9 I never had a single freeze.
All on laptops, one Acer, and a few Thinkpads.

Re: Intermittent problem - can't rename files in Caja

I only remember this thread on the issue, was never able to reproduce it myself: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=206&t=276007&p=1608590&hilit=caja+rename#p1514945 I experienced this "bug" last night, and today for first time (that I recall) in about a year of using mint 19.0 MATE. I do...

I think the OP is looking for the source code for the Mint version of Firefox, specifically via the browser and not apt, which I don't know if is available.
Guess I didn't notice "looking for source"

Maybe here, "Mozilla source code"
https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/

Good luck.

Is it possible to create a shortcut that close all applications from a specific workspace? For example (Win + Q) = close all programs from workspace 3? My guess is totally possible. I just helped a member do a similar thing, that was to,...delete any window with "focus" with shortcut <SUPER + Q>. h...

Re: Easiest way to install Linux Mint to multiple PCs (new and identical hw)?

is (partially) incorrect. It is true that some people don't like Clonezilla (and that's fine). The part about extra work to do to have an exact working system is false; if I take the boot drive out of a working system and clone it to a new drive the new drive will also boot in fact it will be an ex...

Re: I Flashed Linux iso to an SD Card and now my pc won't recognize the card at all.

Not knowing your hardware, I think it quite safe to say................ First, do you have the SD card plugged into a card reader slot on the PC ?, that probably won't work (on most machines) to boot from, hence your problem. OR, do you have it in a USB card reader (adapter/"thing") ? That will (sho...

Re: Are these instructions still valid on Linux Mint 19.3 mate

Sure, if you need them. Like the article said Linux doesn't "clutter" itself up...usually / normally. (and I think at least some of that stuff deletes itself after x days of time) Anyway, you can run any of those commands as regular user, and simulate what might happen. Ex for; sudo apt-get autoremo...
