Re: How to autorun snap app? (and use snap in general)

make it autostart on boot? The easiest way to autostart IMO is to add an entry in "Startup Applications" A keyboard shortcut is just as easy, google "linux keyboard shortcut to start a program" I've installed snapd and app, how to uninstall applications using snap and snapd itself once I don't need...

Re: Make everything bigger

I would just like to get a few things first and that size thing is one. I take it you have NOT been able to adjust the screen resolution as of yet ? It was stated as "vesa resolution: 1920x1080~60Hz " earlier. (That is too high IMO, depending on actual screen size, and your eyesight) Anyway if you ...

Re: Emulating Retro Platforms

Higan, and MAME here.
Plays all the games I want such as Defender, pac man, moon cresta, galaxian, R-Type, galaga, a bunch of Mario's.

Note on space invaders, no longer works in MAME version 0.195 (the one for Mint 19)

Re: Small quirks in Linux Mint

I have had the exact same "quirk" as you. Sometimes all things in the panel don't get loaded, like the time/date/calendar, some launching icons on the panel don't load ETC, so I have to restart and then all is well. Thanks: I started a thread about my experience back in February, and just solved it ...

Re: New MInt 18.0 CD Solved

No waste. As an alternative to a video downloader, which always need updating, or to be installed from a PPA I use a screen capture program to capture/save videos. They are easy to use, and will (probably) always work. Examples of screen recorders are Kazam, Simple Screen Recorder, and vokoscreen, a...

Re: New MInt 18.0 CD

If I'm not mistaken the "install mint" should also be in the menu somewhere.
A reboot might make the missing icon appear ?

ETA, yes I just booted a mint 18 stick, and indeed the installer is in the menu

Re: NEWB w/dual boot questions (windows folders - pics, music, etc)

I would put Linux on your "main drive", using the "install along side" option.
That is of course dependant on the remaining free space on that drive. How much is there ?
Yes you should be able to access those files on your "slave" drive...unless it is formatted weird.

Re: Distrowatch stats for LM?

I'm not sure how anyone really has much belief in those distrowatch stats. Mint was on top for a very long but even as much as I'm a fan of Mint, I seriously doubt anything even comes close to Ubuntu as a desktop linux distro. I agree completely. This topic came up some time ago, and I did a compar...

Re: Should I update everything on the Update Manager list?

The general rule of thumb is, yes, apply all updates. That said, there can be exceptions to every rule, and "sometimes" it might be best NOT to update a certain package. One example I have is kodi, I found out an update breaks it, so I blacklisted Kodi. I also blacklisted another package for reasons...

It would help people to know which windows, and maybe some specifics of your machine. My guess is it probably has something to do with windows fast boot, or maybe secure boot. You can search for threads about how to turn those off. here's one https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?t=264652 I've ...

Re: Mouse way too fast!

I have found the mouse speed to be pretty fast on fresh installs. ON mint 19 for sure, I don't recall what it was like on Mint 18, anyway, Opening up the mouse preferences shows the speed to be set to the slowest level, however just moving the slider up a bit, and maybe back again has always fixed i...

Re: How to Install Windows 10 in dual boot on Linux?

Curious as to what win10 can do in a Vbox that win 7 could not ? (using a LOT less room) Well, I didn't give it much thought as I'm no expert. I was able to download windows 10 on Microsoft but I haven't found anything about windows 7. I would be happy to install 7 but since I was unable to solve t...
