Re: Booting from a USB thumb drive

1) is usb a booting option in your BIOS ? If it is then 2) are your sure you created the usb boot medium properly?
I don't mean to ask stupid questions, as I know nothing about secure boot, except it is not a Linux thing.

don't use that function, myself
:(
Thanks @pierre for adding that option. Frankly I am like you, I don't "need" blue tooth either, and if I did the 5 dollar dongle I mentioned in another thread would suffice. I am just curious how many mint users do have BT functionality.

Re: extremely slow file copy to USB

Just my observation take it for what it is worth. It seems that sticks take smaller amounts of data fast enough, but as the amount of data grows larger, the speed gets slower...and slower the larger it is. Any truth in that ? When transferring multi GB's of data, like doing backups, a usb stick is j...

Bluetooth poll, do you have bluetooth working Yes/No

I have seen bluetooth topics marked [SOLVED], and have seen many also not solved. I have definitely read many of the solved threads, but none have ever helped me. So just being curious I'd like to get a feel for how many actually have BT working in mint 18. I have not created a poll before, but thin...

Re: how to add bluetooth loudspeaker

I know installing blueman has helped some people, but I am also "one of" who that does not help either. It's funny cause the computer recognizes the bluetooth device (knows it's name etc.) even says paired, but just no way you're getting any sound out of it. Question for the smart people here, is th...

Re: What would you use if Mint wasn't available?

I could probably use any number of the more popular distros and be happy. I just minutes loaded a live session of MX 17. WOW fantastic installer with all kinds of options including persistence which is cool because included in it's fantastic assortment of default software is Live-usb Maker. You coul...

Wallpaper "MINT powered" cpu

Hey I'm not much of a GIMPer, but I had a vision, I wanted to take a pic. of my thinkpad's keyboard, cut out a section, showing the mobo, and cpu. put MINT on the cpu, and maybe have some sparks flying out of it. I spent a bit of time just on the word "mint", and on the "sparks". It could use some i...

Re: install openssh-server then restarted BIG PROBLEM

Hmmm, problem may not be as big as I thought, after clicking OK on the second warning, I got a weird screen, the first warning showed again, I clicked OK, and now has started (apparently) normally. I checked that .dmrc file, it is empty (2 bytes). I check /var/log/upstart folder and it too is empty ...

Re: Virtualbox Win7 Screen Size

You will know if guest additions is installed because "seamless" mode will be blue, and available. I personally prefer seamless over full screen because the semi hidden menu line in the middle of the screen bugs me. Maybe there is a way to disable that ? Virtualbox is an awesome piece of software fo...

Very brave - wish you good luck!
"luck" and asking a lot, for one of "the most" proprietary programs of all to run for free in Linux.

Did they somehow "fake" the numbers is my first question, I mean it is polar opposite of MS mentality ? Or that is my thought, I may be wrong, I was once before.
I like most of the posts in this thread. It is interesting.

A few replies quick. As you can see I have added a bit.
The "small" Debian I installed did not look like the video, because I didn't get the same iso.
It is a fully functioning system with no problems for me, AND ! there is a software center, a very good one!

Re: Debian 9, Solus 3, tested over weekend

. Indeed. More to the point, considerable amount of time to learn them. Debian is an intermediate distro, it is not recommended for people who want an OS that 'just works'. But once you put the effort in to understand it, you're less likely to want to go back. Well you are right on a few points.......

I hate updates, one of the biggest reasons I came to Linux. You install an OS, it works, you take the "recommended" updates, it breaks......I hate updates.
