Re: How to hide files in the trash ?
I may have transfered files from an older hard drive to this new one while using Windows. But Windows is not on my computer anymore. I opened Disks but I don't see a way to check the drive's condition. My only options are "additional partition options" and "unmount selected partition...

Re: Any way to set a proper deep-sleep suspend?
Obviously I can try to just always shut down completely, but that has a long litany of other issues for me currently including I often have dozens of windows and/or tabs open to very specific locations so I can get rolling as fast as possible exactly where I was when I wake the computer. If I have ...

Re: How to hide files in the trash ?
Mike has this drive been used on a windows machine ? If yes, and that windows has fast start enabled, then you may have a "dirty" file system. I'll wait on your reply, before I say more. I will say I finally googled this issue, and there are many threads, NONE, are marked solved. https://w...

Re: Which partitions to use, and size?
Unfortunately went ahead with an install before being able to read your post, Danbor. I settled on 1gb for /boot, 500mb for EFI, and the rest on /root. Welcome to Mint forums. It is my opinion, that a separate /boot is not a good idea, because, some people fill up their root partition which is ofte...

Re: How to hide files in the trash ?
Thank you but I wonder how do I find the path that´s supposed to replace the "/that/drive" bit ? When you plug in your external drive does it not show up in your file manager, under Devices ? Just hover on it, the path will be displayed, usually external devices will be /media/<USERNAME>/...

Re: VM to USb
Welcome to Mint forums. Apparently you can clone your VM to a USB stick. https://forums.virtualbox.org/viewtopic.php?p=353139&sid=8dda5aa4a97d22d8c8271a8b93578d32#p353139 "You could" skip the Virtual Machine step, and install directly to USB. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?...

Re: Basic User Hardship That I Want to Go Away (overly sensitive mouse)
Howdy rickNS, Anyway, thanks for not being offended. AND, if you are interested in getting the keyboard shortcuts to work, to toggle touchpad off/on, just say so...there may be times when you want it to work ? I overlooked this. Yeah, that would be really cool. Don't know if I would use it or not b...

Re: Basic User Hardship That I Want to Go Away (overly sensitive mouse)
I have not had a single issue since turning off the mouse pad and using an external mouse. Both had to be done. I am 99% sure that what caused these occurrences was grazing the touchpad while typing /CUT/ Thans all for your help! which is what I suspected... Some of the things you describe, must be...

Yes, most likely extra kernels.
Update manager > View > Linux Kernels
Rule of thumb is leave in current one, and one older one (Two total).

Re: New HP laptop, will LM install void warranty?
Brand new, wow, have not had a new one since 2007. I think it quite safe to assume, that any "modification" is reason to not get warranty. I'm installing Linux on external nvme usb drive and using it during the initial no-questions-asked (about 30 days) return period. Just disconnect it an...

Re: Install with 1 usb?
There is another way, if you only have one USB stick. Create a virtual machine (in virtual box), and boot the live iso, then install to your USB stick. When running the installer it will say you have mounted drives / partitions, do you wish to unmount them, say yes. When you get to the installation ...

Re: Toasted my system trying to help on another thread
Booting from the Mint USB stick and then launching Timeshift is to no avail? Correct. No "successful' boot to HDD...yet. Boot-repair just finished with "Boot successfully repaired" We shall soon see.... Yeah ! fixed Grub says, Ubuntu...after another reboot says, Linux Mint 21 MATE SO...

Re: Toasted my system trying to help on another thread
Well, since you've booted more or less normally, you can also use Timeshift now.... Thanks, but Timeshift no help, "Error running Rsync --if the restored system fails to boot, then boot from live USB, install timeshift, and try restoring another snapshot. Close window to exit" I am downlo...

Re: Toasted my system trying to help on another thread
Can you still boot from the Mint USB stick, preferably one with the Edge edition of 21.3 on it? If so, you could attempt to restore a Timeshift snapshot with it. Note that you have to launch the Timeshift wizard first (which is bad design), select Locations and then point it to the location where y...

Re: Toasted my system trying to help on another thread
OK, so I am booted (somehow) to the ventoy stick with LMDE6. Then boot that up to see if the internal drive of the computer in question still get the personal files intact. it seems from disks, that all the partitions are still there, system info, System: Kernel: 6.1.0-12-amd64 arch: x86_64 bits: 64...

Re: Toasted my system trying to help on another thread
Sorry Rick. hopefully you will fix the issue, you seem to be very skilled in Linux after reading your posts helping a lot of people around here. I always experiment in virtual machines whenever i help anyone in the forum, and i learn new things on the way, then i can revert the VM's with the initia...

[SOLVED]Toasted my system trying to help on another thread

Re: How to configure Mate main menu?
I can't find Edit Menu anymore. I only have Preferences which adjusts the size of the menu and Places, etc. I can't seem to add a new Category or move items into or out of a Category. I must say I do not understand why your Mint 21.3 MATE would be different than mine which does have "Edit Menu...

Re: Install with 1 usb?
After my previous post about dualbooting with windows, I decided to install on a USB. However, I have ordered a single USB not realising that I don't have any USBs with delectable data, and they are all too large to backup. Could I install it onto the live USB or perhaps even use my already backed ...
