Re: Reinstalling 'Nadia' via EFI

Thank you srs5694, for your respose. I regret that my effort had inconclusive results. I used the wrong 'cloning' s/w at least whilst cloning the complete drive, it 'froze' the "idiot" (laptop) after about 60% (-about an hour!) I did not have the time to retry so I took an existing cloned image (a s...

Re: Reinstalling 'Nadia' via EFI

Thank you for your prompt response and insight. I will follow your advice and take a full HDD clone image before I do anything! I will then set up a GPT partition and reinstall. I am a little apprehensive about doing this because of my lack of experience however, I do not have a Windows OS on the ma...

Reinstalling 'Nadia' via EFI

This may be a 'dumb' question to an expert, which I am not! I would like to reinstall 'Nadia' on a gpt setup (- I am able to reset my efi/bios to EFI), and I have taken a 'cloned' backup image of a second OS that I had installed on a bios partition but now wonder if the cloned bios partition can act...

Re: Multi O/S's that use Grub legacy and Grub2

After deciding on a particular solution ( fix !!) for my booting options, I decided to delete the PCLoS (hdo,7) part, from the initrd line. This works well and PCLoS now boots from the
Mint 10 startup menu.

Thanks again for the help.

Re: Multi O/S's that use Grub legacy and Grub2

Thanks wayne128 for the info, I can at least do that and I suspect it will then work ok! Thanks also rhodry, this has also given me a better understanding of the issue. I have followed many of the Forums discussions but that explanation really clarified what is going on. Many thanks for your time an...

Re: Multi O/S's that use Grub legacy and Grub2

Hi, Thanks for the prompt response. From your responses in order - 1. "[f you choose Grub legacy, then when you install Mint ( which use grub2) what you do is to select boot loader writing to its root partition instead of MBR, then on boot up PCLOS and change /boot/grub/menu.lst to add a 3-line stan...

Multi O/S's that use Grub legacy and Grub2

I have a laptop that has Windows Vista, openSUSE, PClinuxOS and now Linux Mint. Mint 10 boots with no problem of course, and I have been able to Chainload Vista which boots ok and SuSE boots ok however, PCLinux will not boot - as the system is loading, the screen freezes with one of the lines readin...
