Alternative to Gnome Schedule? (Solved)

As per title...I am looking for an alternative to Gnome Schedule for Mint 18.1 Cinnamon. I do not want to try and teach my 80 year old father how to set up a cron job! Tried installing Gnome Schedule but although it installed supposedly, it does not show up in the Menu.

Suggestions please.

Re: Lock Screen is making me nervous! Unlocks WITHOUT password

I can confirm this. Cinnamon 18.1 on Lenovo x200s. Closing the laptop lid sends the laptop off to sleep as per usual but opening the lid again does not present the lock screen, goes straight to desktop instead. Only started doing this today and lock screen settings have not been changed. Same update...

Mint 18 KDE problems

Posted these questions on the KDE beta page. And yes I know it is a beta but a couple of these are ongoing. I normally use Cinnamon and have to say I am overall very impressed with KDE. Interested in thoughts or solutions to numbers 4 and 5. Thanks. "Installed alongside 18 Cinnamon. Very stylish ind...

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” Cinnamon released!

I have been running the Beta since it came out, very happy with it as well, but I notice a couple of the icons under Menu like Administration and Preferences are still in Mint 17 style. The icons in the screenshot at the top of the blog post announcing the release of Mint 18 stable are completely di...

Re: Printer driver - what did I just install?

The first is 32bit and the second 64bit. Which one you install depends on whether you have 32bit Mint or 64bit Mint.

Re: Lenovo Thinkpad X220 won't boot from USB

While the laptop boots continually tap F12 and it should bring up a menu where you can choose your boot device. Your USB drive should be in there. Use the arrow keys to select it and then press the enter key. No need to enter the bios at all. If your USB device is not there then you may need to use ...

I would remove lucky backup as it doesn't look to have been updated for some time. Try another backup solution.

Re: Why is a hidden SSID slow to find (WiFi)?

A hidden wifi network does broadcast itself. Otherwise you would never be able to connect to it. And setting it as hidden does not improve the security one bit. Set it to braodcast as normal and make sure you're wifi password is a good one then try connecting to it again.

Re: Correct way to set up an open wifi hotspot

Going to check these out, thank you. Ultimately the budget depends on what *they* decide to give me. Trying to get the senior management in the bar (two women around the same age as me, 50's) to understand that wifi is now a prerequisite for those under thirty is akin to banging my head against the ...

Re: Correct way to set up an open wifi hotspot

Many thanks for the replies folks. I have had a chat with the main bar manager (the only one who understands what the hell I am talking about!) and we have come to the conclusion that a password will be set. This is purely to do with the legal issue, if we run an open network could we be accused in ...

Correct way to set up an open wifi hotspot

Ok folks, here is question for you. Put a password on a public wifi hotspot or not? A little background info- I administer the wifi in my local cafe bar. Mainly cause no one else was willing to do it! I originally set it up about three years ago as an open wifi network. Myself and the bar manager di...

Re: PCjacking

I am so tempted to do this in my local PCWorld/Currys store. Most of the staff in there have no idea about computers (not surprising as they are all on minimum wage 0 contracts) and it would be fun to see how long it lasted for.

"Excuse me, Linux Mint. Is that a new version of Windows?"

lol!

For anyone reading this and having the same problems I solved the graphics corruption by installing a GeForce N210 video card and installing the recommended driver. It was around £25 and works perfectly.

Re: Best Version For Core 2 Duo with 4 GB Ram?

I have Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64bit running on several laptops with those specs and it runs with no problem. Dell and Lenovo. I know you don't want to but a couple of hours spent with an 8 gig usb stick and a few downloaded versions will tell you exactly what version runs best.

I thought that would be the answer unfortunately. Still, installed MATE as a backup and showed her how to get into it if Cinnamon gets really bad.She much prefers Cinnamon, more familiar to her. Thanks for the reply.

[SOLVED] Icon corruption/missing icons

I have just finished installing 17.3 Cinnamon on my friends old Dell E520. It is as expected working perfectly except for some sort of corruption in the graphics. Example.png As you can see the top half of the Update Manager icon is missing. This also happens in Firefox where either the "F" in the t...

Re: Standard account vs Admin account? No difference?

I should have specified I am using Cinnamon. Apologies. I have been on this forum long enough to know better! Got it set the way I want it now. It has always struck me as strange that Cinnamon does not automatically block access to one account's folders and files from another account but perhaps the...
