Re: MDM on a pure debian system

If you get the blank screen after typing your password at the greeter screen, that's a known issue (workaround is inside). I was getting the blank screen after login. Downloaded the latest versions of mdm and themes. Tried them as such, they did not work. Implemented the solution suggested (comment...

Re: MDM on a pure debian system

I know the mdm in debian is totally different from what is mint has :-) I download the mdm deb from mint and install it using dpkg. So, installing it is not an issue at all. As I said, I get a blank screen. The system was working before the updates from a week or so.

MDM on a pure debian system

I am sorry if this is off-topic. I was using mdm (the display manager from mint) on my debian system without any problems. After the latest round of updates, mdm fails to start. I could not find any error messages in the usual places :-( Is there a way to get mdm workinmg properly on a pure debian s...

I second this. Any machine bought even 5 years back can boot off a usb drive. So, unless you have an older machine, try avoiding the burning of iso's to cd's :-)

Why bother? Just install debian testing plus sid. You should be fine with proper tweaking of the pinning :-)

Re: Debian 7 Wheezy is out

Testing tends to be hectic and risky the weeks just after the release of stable, and, this time the freezing has been really long so next weeks are gonna be really fun for testing users: Testing/sid users are going to move from kernel 3.2 to 3.8, from GNOME 3.2 to 3.8, libreoffice from 3.5 to 4, xo...

BTW: A message for all testing/sid users: Good luck!!... you are going to need it   ) Not exactly. Have been using testing+sid+experimental mix since many years. Whatever new I see in unstable/experimental, I have been installing and using them without any problems. So, it is not a prob...

Re: Foxit Reader using WINE in LMDE 64-bit

Use Foxit Reader for Linux, FoxitReader_1.1.0_i386.deb. The version looks quite dated. It is from 2009! Further, from their page for Linux version At present Foxit Reader for Desktop Linux V1.1 doesn’t support a few features which are available on window versions, such as commenting tools, drawing ...

Have you looked at the permissions on that particular file? That might be the reason for the message. If it is not world readable, then you have a problem.

Decided to try installing wine from liquorix on an lmde setup with UP5 installed. Re: Boot font change

Try this

Code: Select all

sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup

On the third screen, select

Code: Select all

Do not change the boot/keyboard

This prevents the boot font from changing midway.

Re: Root partition is suddenly running out of space

Where is the list of channels in LMDE? I presume that by channel you mean the entries in the sources.list. This file is in /etc/apt. You can use sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list and remove the unwanted entries. After I delete the channel, how do I clean the system of all its packages? Open a termin...

Are you sure you are running LMDE UP5? It seems like you are tracking debian testing/sid/exp probably with apt-pinning. Sorry, I did not mention that. I thought the sources.list was enough :-( I do run lmde on a couple of machines. But, since this issue of wine also interested me, I thought of tryi...

Re: Delete all files - *.txt from a directory and sub direct

The solution will give you trouble when there are files with space in their names. It is also better to use xargs rather than exec. To get round that problem use the following command :

Code: Select all

find dirname -name "*.txt" -print0 | xargs -0 rm
