Re: Mint 13 Mate on USB, persistence and login problem

I'm running Maya pretty much the same way, 16Gb usb drive and a 1Gb persistent folder and I'm not having this same issues. My settings are retained after a reboot, I don't know what could be the reason either? One thing that I have noticed is that a 1Gb persistent folder doesn't actually give you 1G...

Re: Linux 12 NO Menu nor taskbar after install..help

Same problem here with Mint 12, 11 works like a dream so rather screw around with what appears to be show stopper for a lot of folks I'll stick with what works. I've never really heard why they fixed what wasn't broken? I'm sure they had their reason but the old Mint desktop has always worked incred...

Re: Linux Mint 9 with eeepc 1000H -> Can't connect to WiFi

Would like to try the upgrade, I can (and did earlier) always install Mint 8 again. Is there a reason that the team advises not to do an upgrade? For me it could be the solution because the preferred method of a fresh install is not working for me. :? Normally they don't suggest an upgrade install ...

Re: Linux Mint 9 with eeepc 1000H -> Can't connect to WiFi

I thought I had posted this before but, maybe not. I'm running Mint 9 on an Asus 1000HE and wireless is working although this was an upgrade from Mint 8. Worst case scenario you could install Mint 8 and just follow the apt upgrade path to Mint 9. Funny that these systems are designed For Linux and t...

Re: Mint on Netbooks?

Unfortunately wireless is working not good with Mint 9 RC on my 1000H. With the Live USB it is not working, although wireless networks are visible. Entering password does not give a connection. After install same problem. After updates same problem. After repair broken packages via Recovery it star...

Re: Upgrade Process

Update:

This issue has apparently sorted itself out.
I just installed a package from Synaptic (Gwibber) and during the process it removed a few packages. Some of these must have been the ones with issues because I no longer show any broken packages so....

Looks the the upgrade was a success.

Upgrade Process **Solved**

This is on an Asus 1000HE netbook that was originally running Mint 7. A month ago I completely (successfully) upgraded it to Mint 8 via apt. Now it's gone from Mint 8 to Mint 9 without much issue except for one package that doesn't seem to be working out. In order to finish the upgrade I had to remo...

Re: Paying to use Mint

Just to clear up any confusion, it doesn't state anywhere that you can't charge for Linux. That is true, however, it no longer falls under the GNU/GPL scheme if you charge for it. You're saying if I burn a cd, send it someone and charge them for it then it's no longer GNU/GPL? Where is that stated?

Re: Paying to use Mint

The beauty of Linux is also one of it's biggest pitfalls. Since it normally comes without cost people assume the development doesn't cost anything or that the folks developing aren't humans with their own bills and lives to afford. I imagine one of the warmest feelings these developers get is when y...

Re: Linux Mint 9 "Isadora" RC released!

Loving the new release, a few problems with resuming from hibernate which trying to fix resulted in a persistent kernel panic but a quick reinstall (least amount of time between installs ever) sorted that and got a workaround sorted. If you just accepted a default partitioning when you installed th...

Re: Linux Mint 9 "Isadora" RC released!

Does Mint 9 Isadora come with the social network integration as in Ubuntu 10.04? If so where / how do you find it? Thanks, I love it! Gwibber...? Look in the Internet section of your menu for it. It's there for Live boot anyway I assume it's also installed. Very nice client for Twitter too. Maybe m...

Re: Problem with flash affecting audio in other apps

This is the beauty of Flash, especially in Linux. I have the same issue on my system, sound just dies until I close the browser. It *might* be hardware related but, it's mostly poorly written code by Adobe. Flash is taking control of resources and not releasing them. You might just try installing th...

Re: Debian as Base

The blog writers stated a position that I don't agree with when he said. "I am personally convinced that Ubuntu never needed to be created, and that if it hadn’t things would be farther along than they are today and while toothpaste is out of the tube, it would still be best if they merged tod...

Re: Debian as Base

Has there been any recent news about Mint going to a Debian base, or about a Debian-based Mint version (as far as I know, a Debian-based Mint version is what Clem had in mind sometime last year)? Still waiting to see if Clem is actually working towards this right now, or if the idea's been dropped,...

Re: Mint 9

I "assume" Mint 9 will also be a LTS version as is Ubuntu 10-4...? Just got a Lenovo Y550P laptop and I've live booted the new Ubuntu release on it and it looks and works great. I just think I want to put an LTS version on here and not fiddle with it for a few years. I usually can't resist...

Re: Debian as Base

This is a great idea, and i just heard this morning that the new Crunchbang Linux 10 will be using debian as a base. If Mint switches to Debian, it would be alot lighter, faster, and nicer! Oh you have no idea how fantastic it would be.....really. You know how the grass is sort of green where you s...

Re: Debian as Base

It's funny to read how everyone thinks Debian is without fault. It might be interesting to see what would happen if Ubuntu just failed to exist tomorrow. My bet is that Linux would regress back into the dark back rooms and basements like it was before Ubuntu. I guess my only question is, if Debian ...

Re: Neat technology for Android phones.

I've seen a QR code sticker on the wall in front of the urinals in the restroom at a popular hang out near me.

I didn't scan it with my Droid to see what it was though, probably didn't want to know.
