Re: Poll: Desktop environments

It's the most ignorance to think that, what you self like is what others should like. And the same goes for the Unity haters as the utter outrage continues. I am not ignorant, and I do not think others should like what I like but I do think people should be more open for change. What has been plain...

Re: Poll: Desktop environments

For the life of me, I really cannot understand why people hate Unity so much. It has allowed an incredible increase of productivity when I use my computer. The DE is truely a forward thinking approach to using computers while keeping in mind how necessary it will be in the near future to keep your h...

Re: Linux Mint 12, and beyond?

It is interesting to me how developments such as Unity and Gnome 3 has changed the Mint community. LM was at one time a very novel and progressive (not to mention, wildly successful) distro but has been revealed to posses a deeply conservative and principled user base. Times are a'changin and it wil...

Re: screen freezes, clicks have no effect. mouse moves. mint

I have the exact same problem. It happens with Natty as well. I have not been able to find a solution anywhere. when it happens, my only resort is to shut down the system. It seems to be happening more often when firefox is running and then the screen saver initiates.

Re: Only two install options (Katya)

take a deep breath, libssd, it will get better. I was only expressing an opinion. if that person didn't want to give LM a fair shot because he was impatient, I think it is their loss. I hear what you are saying preferences and I agree. I do think my comment was "called for" as it was not meant to in...

Re: Ubuntu in THIRD on distrowatch for 30 day count

About time, would be about right. Canonical pays to help bring linux out. People start realizing there's something to it n also start realizing ubuntu isn't the only game in town. So good ... hope the trend continues. And all the distro's that put ubuntu to shame ( Mint etc.) get their turn in the ...

Re: ideal partitioning scheme for newbies?

I used to set it up like this on my Core Duo laptop with 2 gb of ram: 100MB /boot (primary, ext3) 2GB swap 15GB / (logical, ext4) 147GB /home (logical, ext4) But I have found that my computer runs faster when I just dedicate the entire HDD to Mint on a fresh install, with the installer placing the s...

Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?

I'm trying mint because it doesn't use gnome 3 or unity. If they change, then i'll switch to kde - even though kubuntu isn't being supported all that well from ubuntu. I have a prefectly good desktop pc - why would i want to change it to a smartphone. I was thinking more along the lines of a tablet...

Ok, wow, sorry. This is why (too much) beer and forums don't mix. I don't clearly remember posting this, but oh well. I think I was on a notorious image board earlier that night and got all angsty. What a dumb post. :?

Re: Linux Mint and Unity? :)

Why not have it as an option could apply to EVERY DE & WM. Distros used to come on multiple CDs so you could choose at install time what DE or WM combo you wanted, as well as what suites of applications you want. Debian still does, it's 26 CDs at the last count, or 6 DVDs. The more you cram into an...

Re: Mint Overtakes Ubuntu for #1 spot

Although not as active, I have found the Mint forums to be much more helpful and friendly than the Ubuntu forums. A lot less smug in the room with Mint users.

Re: Linux Mint and Unity? :)

The Mint team is relatively small, do we really need yet another edition when it's very easy to just apt-get install it in the Ubuntu based version? It's arguable that there are too many editions as it is, let alone adding another one for a niche subset of users who would be just as happily served ...

Re: Only two install options (Katya)

Hi, thanks for the tip. I deleted a 200MB (!) partition containing some OEM stuff from HP. After that, the machine no longer booted from the CD drive, but I downloaded Ubuntu 11.04  and that has a special "make it install from CD no matter what"-option which worked a treat, so now it's hello...

Glaring bugs

Bugs, bugs, bugs..... Holy crap, I really thought that the Mint team had polished all the Natty bugs. Hasn't happened yet. Music player is totally off, right click is non functional, can't move multiple files to the trash, USB mounting is buggy,,,,,, all this is really too bad because Mint really is...

Re: Will mint stop using gnome 2.32 in next release?

I'm interested to see what happens. I prefer Unity over GNOME Shell by far, and I think the Mint team has a lot to offer Unity. Soon, die hard GNOME fans will either have to fork ver. 2 or pick a new DE. The entire Linux community is on a horizon, so to speak. I dunno, maybe a MintMobile soon?

Re: Gnome or Unity for Mint 11

After using Unity for quite some time (and now I'm ready to come back, ha!), I have to say that I went into it hating it and I have grown to like a lot about it. I think it is a step in the direction of how we will interact with the DE in the future. There is A LOT that needs to be ironed out. It ha...
