Re: Software Installation Approach (Recommendations) (SOLVED)

Thanks for all the help. I downloaded the Deb and it appeared to be alright. Despite doing a Skype Test Call, which was fine, I'm having problems hearing the person I'm calling. Works fine on the 4.3 version. I guess that's just a Skype issue.

Thanks again :)

Re: Software Installation Approach (Recommendations)

I have 18.1 also. How did you get Skype Beta 5.0? As I used Software Manager I can't seem to get/force an update. I looked in Synaptic and reloaded but it only mentions the version I have.

Software Installation Approach (Recommendations)

I've recently had a warning email that my version of Skype won't work after 1st July 17. It just says Version 4.3 and I have 4.3.0.37, installed via Software Manager. I did the 'Check for Upgrades' thing and it confirms I'm up to date. The Skype email doesn't say what the newest version is, or even ...

Update Manager - Level 4 & 5. Will updates change? (SOLVED)

I've taken the advice to exclude Level 4 & 5. If we ignore them then they just remain listed. Do updates change the level as and when they reach the relevant level, so that I can then install the updates? Many thanks :)

Please Excuse My Lack of Understanding: Verifying ISO(SOLVED)

I've downloaded Mint 18 Cinammon 64bit. I tried to follow the ISO verification instructions but I've come a little stuck. Here's what I've done so far: Downloaded the ISO Imported the Signing Key I went to the links for the sha256sum.txt and the sha256sum.txt.gpg files which show these: 3fb60a7698f5...

Re: Grub problem

I used the first command you mentioned 'sudo fdisk -l' and it just shows/dev/sda1, 2, 3 and 4'. I'm guessing that you're right, my Mint installation has gone.

(SOLVED)Disk Partitions - Please help me to understand

I dual boot with Windows 7 and I'm looking to repartition, using gparted. The difficulty is that I don't really understand how the partition allocations work. I have a 500Gb Hard drive, which had Windows 7 installed with 3 partitions C: 58.4 Gb D: 195 Gb E: 55.8 Gb Total = 309.2 My Mint 11 says I ha...

Re: Partitioning For Beginners?

Thanks for the reply. I really love Linux Mint and as with alot of people, I don't have nearly enough spare time, so won't be distro hopping. I looked at Clem's guide to upgrading. In it he describes how to install a new version of Mint over an existing one, perhaps I should have found this earlier....

Partitioning For Beginners?

I'm trying to sort out the partitions on my hard drive but I'm seriously out of my depth. I've seen a few Youtube videos and googled, but even the 'Beginners Guides' overwhelm me - though I would like to learn. My 3 month old notebook came with 500Gb HDD and Windows 7, partitioned into at least 4 dr...

(SOLVEDHow can I post a screen shot?

I'd like to post a screen shot of my drive details from 'gparted' so that I can get some help with partitioning. I have a .png by using print screen. I'd be grateful if someone could advise me how to show the screen shot on this forum page; I'm open to any other possible methods.

Many thanks.

Re: Dual Boot Menu Options - Keeps Previous Installation

At the moment I have two Mint 10 and a Windows 7 boot option. I will install gparted and try to sort it out. I'm planning to upgrade to Katya but not immediately. Re-partitioning sounds daunting but I want to give it a go. I'm hoping to be able to learn how to install Katya whilst getting rid of Jul...

Re: Wireless Drivers after Upgrading - Download Again?

I found the 'Additional Drivers' in 'Mint Menu'. I was originally given the impression that after installing Mint I would then have to go and look for Drivers; as in get them off the net. If the drivers are already available, then it seems sensible to me that the install process should perhaps inclu...
