HP LaserJet Professional p1102 or CUPs problem?

Hi guys, 5+ years ago I have installed Linux Mint on a computer of a lady, who is a music teacher in her 70-ies, because she was exhausted with Windows problems. She just needs to write something for her students and to print it on her HP LaserJet Professional p1102 printer from time to time. It all...

Re: How to change highlight color?

I meant Alt-Tab GUI - please see the picture: switcher.jpg Please find the black frame that is drawn around the central image. I can hardly see it. I want it in different contrasting color to make it clearly visible. Sorry about the picture quality. It is impossible to take a screenshot of this box.

Re: How to bring terminal colors back to the way they were in Mint 18?

I expect "you" respectively "BY MISTAKE" since everything's colourful for me and I seem to have the default Mint 19.1 ~/.bashrc, as verified per comparing it with /etc/skel/.bashrc (i.e., the default ~/.bashrc a new user gets). You may be using a weird terminal or have set the TERM environment vari...

Re: VBoxGuestAdditions.iso or .vbox-extpack?

Guys, thank you for the explanations! TL;DR is the main problem of our age. Go read that documentation 1400 pages. Then go read another documentation 1400 pages. And so on. You know.

How to change highlight color?

Hello guys, I am using Mint-Y-Dark-Blue theme and I have a problem seeing the black frame - on dark grey background - that highlights the selected item in the switcher box. I've looked for its color setting in the cinnamon.css - all those switcher-list values, but could not find it. I'd like to make...

Why .bashrc is broken in LM19.1?

Terminal worked so well in previous versions. Command prompt was highlighted with different color, search results were highlighted with a different color! Root command prompt was highlighted with other colors! Who and for what reason decided that colors should be eliminated FOR ALL OF US from Termin...

Re: VBoxGuestAdditions.iso or .vbox-extpack?

Guys, thanks for the info. I thought Guest additions was just another name for Extension Pack.

I thought those are just drivers for the VBox hardware. Are they anything else? Can someone explain in two words what's the difference between those?

VBoxGuestAdditions.iso or .vbox-extpack?

Hi guys, it's not the first time that I notice that VBoxGuestAdditions.iso that is in the repos, offered for download and installation, does not solve the USB access problem! To enable USB after you have installed VBoxGuestAdditions.iso you still have to download Oracle_VM_VirtualBox_Extensi...

Why settings change spontaneously?

Hi guys, it happens that I prefer green on black in the terminal. I set it at installation. After a while - like couple weeks later - I find that the terminal is white on black. Why?? I did not change that! I change it back to green on black. Couple weeks later it is again white on black - and this ...

"M" uppercase in password

It happens that my password starts with character "M" uppercase. When I type it (Shift+M) to log in to my laptop - it does not type. All other characters type normally both lowercase and uppercase, but Shift+M does not type - as if the key is disabled. I keep trying, and after a minute it starts typ...

Ctrl+Shift+left, Ctrl+Shift+right bug

Hi guys, you all know shortcuts Ctrl+Shift+left, Ctrl+Shift+right that select the previous/next word in your text editor, don't you? I really need them to work, because otherwise I feel crippled. Now I'm trying to set up my system on Linux Mint Mate 19-64, and something breaks them during the instal...

Re: WiFi driver - how to install

You consider this an off-topic? My thought was that Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, and Linux Mint can do that. Is detecting WiFi cards - a premium feature of specifically Linux Mint?
OK, sorry about that.

Re: Check that installed files are valid

The debsums command will compare the checksums of OS files with the checksums of files that came out of a package... You can check all the installed packages and just look at the not-OK ones. It takes a while... debsums | grep -v OK It's extremely difficult to find unwanted files that have been add...
