Panasonic KX MD-1500 MFU
A friend of mine asked me to help her install the Panasonic KX MD-1500 MFU printer driver on Linux Mint Mate 21.2. In her Printers there was a "Panasonic KX MD-1500 MFU" object marked with a green mark as the "Deafult Printer", but it did not work. We deleted it and tried to rein...

how to sync ntp?
Hello, it's been a while since I've noticed that clock in my system tray is ahead by 5 minutes. I found a very good manual at https://linuxhint.com/configure-ntp-linux-mint/ and did all it said, but in the end my result is: ~$ ntpstat unsynchronised polling server every 8 s Does anyone know how to s...

Re: different shortcuts for different languages needed
Hello billyswong,
as I understand you compiled the xkb-switch_1.8.5-1_amd64.deb and installed it recently.
That's interesting. Can you share the procedure to do that?

Re: Why my PC becomes hot?
My PC has a thick aluminum alloy ribbed case, and it is designed for external ventilation, not internal. And it worked fine with Google Chrome and 30 open tabs until recently - was just a little warm. To blow air through it is like to advise to blow air through your phone if it becomes hot. I just w...

Re: The important enhancement to include into 21.3
I was talking not about a backup, but about a 20 Kb text file that would keep and apply all the customizations that I so far implement manually after each reinstall. It is a kind of configuration that Ansible implements today in a distributed multi-server setups. Why not implement in it Linux Mint? ...

The important enhancement to include into 21.3
When Windows XP appeared in 2000, installation of a PC required 3-4 days. Now Linux Mint installs in 10 minutes - but then we need to apply our favorite settings, which requires half a day of work. IMO Linux Mint development should implement a config method, where a user might keep all his favorite ...

Re: Why my PC becomes hot?
I'm afraid a page with errors that hangs in the Google Chrome may generate the workload that heats the box. I should have started the htop and glances and perhaps I would see what generates the workload. I never had anything like that before v. 21.2 vmstat 2 5 procs -----------memory---------- ---sw...

Why my PC becomes hot?
I have a mini PC that has no coolers inside - its CPU uses its thick aluminium-alloy ribbed box as a radiator. It's very nice - the PC is totally silent, no vibration, buzz, dust inside, and most of the time it is just a little bit warm. However I think that after upgrading to Linux Mint 21.2 I star...

Eliminate all log writing in the system partition
IMHO it is very important to eliminate all log writing in the system partition in the new versions. A lot of my friends who became Linux Mint users with my assistance tell me that "I've been using my computer as usual, did not install anything - and all of a sudden it tells me "You have no...

Re: different shortcuts for different languages needed - no solution?
@billyswong, thank you for the info. Country flags are nice, but those are toys, while I need a real solution to assign different shortcuts to switch to different languages. Current solution to have one shortcut to switch the language loop is no good - it produces too many errors.

Re: different shortcuts for different languages needed
That's a great idea, but typing that in terminal is too difficult. I should assign shortcuts to run scripts with those commands. Do you run them manually or through shortcuts?

Re: different shortcuts for different languages needed
Yes, I see that you offered to use a terminal command setxkbmap de - great that there is this option, but it's a bit too heavy for me. I use en/ru loop thousand times a day and my hand presses the shortcut automatically. Besides I learn German and also need to switch to de quite a few hundred times ...

Re: different shortcuts for different languages needed
Yes, I ultimately need different shortcuts for different languages. As of now they are in the loop: en-ru-de under 'grp:rctrl_rshift_toggle' - I use these thousand times a day. This produces unbearable amount of errors. Ideally I'd prefer to have the loop of en-ru under 'grp:rctrl_rshift_toggle' and...
